3DS Preview IN 3D!!!  Blog by Daavpuke,  Category: News

Remember E3, where people complained that you couldn't market the 3D aspect to an audience? Well, with a little ingenuity, this is a problem of the past. In the links below you can watch 2 videos in full 3D to give you a simulation of what 3DS gameplay will actually look like! It's fresh off the press!

For this to work you'll need to do one of 2 things: Either you have 3D glasses handy or you cross your eyes in the correct angle to overlap the images. Though the latter option will most certainly hurt a bit, so it's up to you to decide what your dedication to your favorite gaming company is.

The videos below are footage from Mario 64 and Starfox 64 (LylatWars) that has been updated with a stereoscopic view:

StarFox 64 (LylatWars) 3DS

These are my channels and since I can't upload any annotations to mess with the 3D aspect, please subscribe, add me and/or watch some other videos, if you liked this footage.

You'll find a 3D context menu on the right lower side to cater to the appropriate 3D need. Here you can also chose a cross eyed option to get 2 separate images. Switch to your leisure to find the correct one for you.

3D Glasses

And to think that Sega were the first people to attempt 3D. Yes, that's right, Sega were the first. Surprised? Well, you'd be even more surprised to know that they attempted it, not with the Mega Drive, but even earlier on with their Master System. It was for the Master System I even!

Unfortunately, the world was not ready for 3D yet and only 8 games were produced before it was immediately discontinued.

RIP Segascope 3D. I bet it'd be impossible to find yourself one of those babies.

I tried watching with a pair that they were giving away for the Super Bowl commercials a few years back, but it really doesn't look 3D, but more just puts a shade of Amber/Blue on everything. Is it working for other people?

@Koshai: I'm confused. The 3DS won't require you to wear any ocular device for you to perceive the 3D effects.

The 3D technology is still premature. What devs needs to figure out is to find a way of not using 3D glasses to play. It is irritating btw!! They should put more research on how they could make the LED technology generate 3D images on their own. I dont know how they would do that.

@Tanya: You can collect a star there. Other than that, no clue.

What happened after you got on top of that tower in Mario 64?

@FetusZero: Luckily the 3DS won't require any 3D Glasses, this simulation can't work without it though, unfortunately.

So playing with a 3DS won't be more strenuous than playing with a current DS. 3D platforms that do require 3D glasses however, I don't get. For one, the image quality gets toned down because of it and it is indeed hard on the eyes.

I wouldn't mind playing with a Segascope though Tongue out.

I just hope the 3DS doesn't hurt the eyes as much as those two colored glasses lol, I tried it with a Green/Magenta pair of glasses that came with the movie Coraline when I bought it.

Now that's something.. a coworker of mine has a 3DTV, and as much as it looks good, it also apprently is very hard on your eyes when playing games in 3D, especially when there's the slightest sunlight in the room. He said the one that currently looks the best is the MLB demo on the PS Store and Super Stardust HD, though he still doesn't see himself play these FPS and stuff in 3D as it's going to be hard on the eyes. Let's make the next generation of gamers blind :]

Hopefully the 3DS won't be as bad, and it shouldn't either.. technically that is.
