LittleBigPlanet 2

By canana, Posted 08 Aug 2010

The first game of the franchise was in essence a platform game. It was possible to customize content, create your own levels and everything else. This time the universe of possibilities is absurdly high - and we can not capture the full capability of the process until we have the game in hand.Nothing could be more precise, since the goal of Media Molecule's allow users to create their own games and share them with other players. But what exactly can be achieved?

It is possible to realize, however, that the limits are imposed primarily by the creativity of the person who plays the game. Or maybe the effort that each is willing to engage in content creation, as became clear during the demonstration held during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), the level of detail in the preparation of challenges is daunting. It is so extensive that the developer entered the ability to create dialog boxes and custom audio so you can explain to people how the game works. Also during the event, several games created by pre-selected members of the community were selected for exhibition. Among them could be found from shooting games to real time strategy games- they had even artificial intelligence integrated and functional! Besides all that, there are the visual enhancements that really separates this title from its predecessor. Features like antialiasing, new lighting and a camera much more complete make a completely different experience - and help open an even greater range of possibilities for those who want to get fancy at the time to invent their games.

What was quite expected by all, however, was not revealed during E3, how would the functionality of PlayStation Move with the game. That is, you have to wait a little longer to see if you can create games with motion capture. But part of the development was revealed: the team responsible for LittleBigPlanet 2 is working only on consoles (with the exception of those who create audio, still using computers), having the same tools as the players. The social aspect of the title, which was always very important, also gain reinforcements - though much of what is being planned has not yet been revealed. Media Molecule will, for example, an addresses system, similar to those used by people who send messages on Twitter, called LBP.me. The goal is to make easier the sharing of information and data. There are so many possibilities it's easy to get overwhelmed with information and losing the game's basic concept: to create games in an affordable platform to then share them with the world and play with friends. Play, Create, Share. The concept is more alive than ever, and will leave us,no doubt, perplexed when  LittleBigPlanet 2  releases in November this year.

  • I wonder what kind of stuff people will create this time around.. they say you can now make "games", but if you search around on the first game community, a lot of people we're already able to do that by other means, creative means. Having seen people recreate side-scrolling shooters where you fly a spaceship in space or recreate games like Tetris, I really wonder how far it will go this time around. It will be crazy o_O

    Do you think someone will, once again, recreate something such as the calculator in the first LBP, which was overly complexed? I'm still amazed that the last time I checked, my Megaman levels didn't get deleted lol. Wonder if they're still up though..

  • That twitter feature sounds handy. But I will never have the chance to play this game.

  • I agree with Fetus but thats the beauty of LBP: taking creativity beyond and make overall enjoyment a lot more.

    Games are becoming more dynamic everyday and LBP2 is giving the flexibility which the previous game demanded. There will be many additional levels as far as remember and a larger range of creation tools. Definitely a handy addition to the sequel. And, with that sharing feature the game will be a great social tool for certain gamers for building up their own mid/large network. The possibilities are limitless here. This is perhaps the beginning of a long term plan. Sony didn't reveal much about its future but you can easily sense it's not going to be a short living series.

    Nice article and a very nice comment @FetusZero.

  • WOW, I am surprised... only four members of the NF community likes LBP. Make it 5! I would like to discuss a bit with you all.

    @FetusZero @Sleven @Koshai @RON

    LittleBigPlanet's motto is: Play, Create, Share. Media Molecule dis an extraordinary job with LBP. Not only for its creative platform elements, but also for the entire world due to the "trillions" of community content that Sackboy has to offer. Community levels,costumes,DLC, and lots of other things. The sequel is comming and I can't imagine the hype and the feedback from the gamers. It can be improved, but with what? Perhaps more user content and more tools for us to build the levels.

    Here's a golden Sackboy as prize for liking this game so much!

  • Just thinking about LittleBigPlanet's creation tools is making me feel excited. There's so many things you can re-create that can aesthetically resemble your favorite games; old and new. This is a great example of that.

    Just imagine the scale of LittleBigPlanet 2. You can create much larger variety of games. And those games will be even bigger than its predecessor. You can probably create one that will take you hours to finish. A game within a game. The thought of it blows my mind...

    It's a shame I didn't get into LBP much. The main reason is that I don't have the patience nor the creativity to actually craft an awesome something. But I do love seeing ingenious creative levels from the community. That much I can be proud of. :D

  • The first one was something special. This one is going to open the audience very quiclky due the fame , but honestly, i will pass the lauch and wait a little bit just to see what happens. There are many great games this holiday season and for me, LBP2 is just for 2011.
