Video for Ron + New Games  Blog by FetusZero,  Category: Games

Hey there everyone! This blog doesn't have such a big purpose other than giving Ron what he asked for and inform you all on my new acquisitions that are worth mentioning. Nothing too fancy here, nothing that warrants a huge wall of text, buuut we never know, right Sleven?

So let's begin with the video itself. In my previous blog showcasing my new Eyefinity setup, Ron said he would like to see some FPS games or open-world ones. At that moment, I decided to embark on a new video adventure. I took all the games I had installed that worked in such a resolution and recorded footage of them, as well as my monitors for a small comparison. Now, the in-game footage is beautiful, but that's only because my video camera is cheap, old and isn't worth a dime, which means that as with last time, the part with my monitors doesn't serve much purpose other than show what it looks like.. kind of.

That isn't to say I didn't ran into any problems, because I did. The way I proceeded was to record in-game footage, which I would later play the video in fullscreen for my video camera. That way I didn't have to worry about being in the way of the camera. However, some games didn't like this, or rather Windows Media Player didn't like this. I had footage for Aquaria, an independent title which is based on adventure and exploring in an underwater world. The video plain wouldn't play and would constantly freeze, therefore I had to remove it from the small compilation. Then comes The Void, which is entirely out of sync for whatever reason. I honestly have no idea why or how it happened, but the beginning of The Void is not timed for like 5 seconds, but then it's fine throughout the rest of the video. What happened? No idea.

So here we go, some of these games I haven't even started playing, which means that the video shown is only from the beginning and does not show anything pleasant or any action (I'm thinking mostly about Call of Pripyat and The Void here), they were merely included because they are games that worked fine. The video lasts a beautiful 8 minutes 45 seconds, the games change approximatively every 1 minute apart from the last one, which probably lasts around 2 minutes. Anyway, here you go. This is for @RON :

Now we can move on to the new acquisitions I have made in video gaming. I will show 4 of them in total, so this will prove to be quite lengthy, so I will try to skip the descriptions as much as possible.

One of my most prized acquisitions at the moment are WipEout and WipEout 3, both for PS1. Not long ago, I remembered these games from back in the days, along with the fury that had invaded me of playing WipEout HD. I then decided it was time for me to own the entire collection once more. Without further waiting, I bought 2 of the 3 PS1 games and received them not long ago.

This is a dream for any anti-gravity racing fans, of course, especially considering that WipEout is one of the few racing games I even enjoy. I now own two classics in the series and am looking forward to purchasing the remaining ones, namely WipEout XL (or 2097 depending on where you live), WipEout Fusion and WipEout Pulse. While I could get WipEout 64 just for the sakes of it, I do not own a N64 and wouldn't even be able to play it, so I doubt I'll get it. The best in all of this? WipEout isn't big enough of a classic for the industry, meaning I paid $5 for each of these two games and will probably pay around the same price for the remaining ones, put apart WipEout Pulse since I can still buy a new copy at retailers.

The Worms are back in a new adventure for PC! I have always liked Worms, despite really hating on the newest titles or people's favorite titles (such as Armageddon). I despised them for one single reason: The explosions were bad. I'm not sure if I am the only one to have noticed, but ever since the first Worms title, the explosions did nothing but get smaller and smaller, affecting a lesser area than before. I remember back in the first game where a Dynamite meant you would get exploded along with your enemy, while in nowadays titles, a Dynamite is nothing to worry about which I greatly dislike. This was fixed with Worms for PS3, where the explosions were back to being huge, such as that dynamite, since we are on the subject.. Place a dynamite in Worms PS3 and run for your life! Because that little boom stick sure packs quite the explosion. I haven't played enough of Reloaded to judge the explosions so far, but they seem decent.

Nonetheless, as usual with Worms, I decided to try it out and so far I'm enjoying it. I haven't played Worms on PC in several years, but still, I'm getting the hang of it, although I'm no star player.

Worms Reloaded - Trailer 2

I played this game like my life was on the line. 3D Dot Game Heroes brought back the classic gaming that I have always loved and it did so in such a magnificent way that I will never understand people who didn't like it. Perhaps these people just didn't game back in the NES days, and such is why they wouldn't like this game, or at least wouldn't take the game for what it is. Played it entirely in a week, which is pretty rare for me to beat a game under a week, but this one was just too much greatness.

As I was playing through a 2nd time on FROM mode (a higher difficulty level), the game pissed me off. Why? Because I had been playing for nearly 1 hour and a half when it decided to freeze.. and I hadn't saved my game. I went to see all of the signs in order to acquire the Super key, traced back my steps to get the treasures requiring colored keys in the 3 temples I did, and that's when it decided to freeze. Upon that specific thing, I ejected the disc from my PS3 and started up Devil May Cry 4 to unleash some fury and also catch up to David who is now at the 5th mission.

Nonetheless, it definitely is a great game and I plan on getting the Platinum for it, but for now, with that very bad timing of things, I'll let it rest a little bit.

@Sleven @Koshai @SitiZal

Sleven: Let's say it has a unique genre ;p lol

Koshai: I would expect Eyefinity to give you quite an edge in multiplayer FPS games, simply because you have a lot more chances to notice people before they notice you, so as you said it's probably a big advantage, So far as 3D Dot Game Heroes, while it may be unfair, Sony needs some exclusives and fortunately, they have some of the best exclusives (in my opinion since I know everyone have different tastes). Luckily though, I own both consoles so I have the best of both worlds, otherwise to me, it would be unfair that PS3 didn't get Triggerheart Exelica, Ikaruga, Dishwasher and Shadow Complex ;p (note: see how they are all arcade titles lol.. yep, my favorite X360 exclusives are arcade titles).

Siti: Thank you for the comment :]

It has become your habit to manage me with your blogs. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

@FetusZero : the whole Eyefinity setup seems to me that you are taking a panoramic view of the whole scene. What a nostalgic feeling. The fun in FPS will actually be felt when you will play multiplayer so you can have higher advantage against the opponents in terms of line of sight. But no matter what Dirt 2 actually shown that is it very much suitable for this setup.

I used to play a flash game similar to Wipeout!! Well I need to try out Wipeout just to see what extra features are there.

The unavalibility of the 3D DotGame Heroes on 360 is simply unfair. At least they could have released for PC. That game reminds me of Half Minute Hero.

That sounds like a real boring game to me Tongue out

@RON @Sleven

Ron: I think it has to do with the video itself while recording, where the video played faster when recording the monitors than it should have been, and then sluttered enough to go back in sync. For some reason I've had some issues like this when playing a video in Windows Media Player at such high resolutions.. as if it couldn't handle it so well, and it only happens with specific games to top it off. I wanted to add Aquaria in there, but the video would literally freeze when played back in WMP, although there were no such freezes in the video when recorded or when played back through Vegas. I wasn't in the mood for searching these days, but I'll definitely be looking for a replacement to play back videos. Otherwise I'm glad you enjoyed it :]

Sleven: I honestly can't say what The Void is about other than bringing life back to a dying world, which lives off of colors, including your body parts. By filling your "hearts" with colors, you are able to roam around the void to reach new areas, in which you collect more colors. However, being in the void drains you of your colors, slowly killing you, which means you then need to refill your hearts. The game is exceedingly hard at first because you don't know how to manage the colors so well, which means you're likely to die of starvation due to a lack of colors in the worlds for you to refill your hearts. There are some type of demons.. strange creatures which you fight back using colors, but that also drains your colors lol, and so does rescuing/freeing the sisters such as the one in the tree, and so does grooming trees with colors in order to collect more colors. It's really.. much deeper and complex than it seemed at first, I never finished it actually lol.

That was a pretty cruel joke on top, right Inventor? I can bet my gaming PC that you can never ever keep your blogs short :lol As for the video in Eyefinity setup, it was jealousome. Looked really cool. I wasn't expecting you to add multiple games in it. I had no idea what you were doing in Portal by creating holes and in Void. I heard that game is based on after life but I was expecting to see demons and hells. lol. But your Sniper run got me into the mood. I want to install this game now Laughing

I'm not sure whether I'll buy any of those new games. But I'll keep my eyes open if I find them on cheap Smile Good luck catching up with David on DMC.

You couldn't have done it in any better way, except for that part from the Viod, which I absolutely have no idea what you did. Maybe you'll figure out later why it was out of sync. Loved the part from Metro. This is what I acutely wanted to see and thus I requested FPS. The screen does look annoyingly wide.

Worms on PC is easier. The only thing concerns me is that it's only available in steam. I hope I manage to get one copy for myself. Loved the original.

Thanks for the video mate Smile

@canana @kelaidis @Amaya @David_D

Canana: Thanks! I really recommend 3D Dot Game Heroes to everyone! Without exception lol. I'm still mad that it froze on me though >_<

Kelaidis: I'll try ;p

Amaya: Of course you need to get Worms, it's a classic :] I would of seen it priced maybe.. $5 cheaper though, but that's how life is.. can't always get what we want.

David: I'm now on mission 5 too :] Just defeated the boss from Mission 4, though I had somewhat a hard time with him.. his attacks were easy to dodge and the patterns ridiculously easy to figure out, espcially for the first half, but he was still pretty quick compared to Nero lol, especially when you consider his size.. which means I got stomped quite a few times -_-

Who is this David guy you speak of? He's playing Devil May Cry 4? That guy must be awesome, you're lucky to know someone so cool... Tongue out I'm still on Mission 5 by the way since last night I played some Red Dead Redemption for my little brother, sister, mom and one of their friends that was over last night but tonight I plan on putting in a few hours with the game and seeing how far I can get in it before I make myself go to bed. Tongue out Hope all is well and see you around, I'm sure you will be finishing DMC 4 first. Tongue out

Good job on the video, Fetus!

Nice purchases, 3D Dot Game Heroes seems interesting and I might give it a try someday. It looks pretty much like Sega Mega Drive Collection/Sonic Ultimate Genesis Collection where the classics are remembered. Have fun with your new games!
