First sales were slowing, and now they're losing support? It's just one thing after another with them, isn't it?

Here's the details from the survey, courtesy of GameSpot:

Snippets released today from a Game Developer Research survey indicate that development for the Wii has declined in the last year. The firm polled more than 800 members of the development community about which platforms they were working on, among other topics.

Roughly 41 percent of the respondents said they made games for consoles, with 30 percent of them working on the Wii. That's down from the 42 percent of console developers who said they made Wii games last year.

One possible warning sign of that decline came last month, when Ubisoft said it was refocusing resources on making games for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Some 69 percent of console developers reported making games for the Xbox 360, with 61 percent working on the PlayStation 3. Both of those figures were in line with console developers' responses from the previous year's survey.

So what do you think of this? Think this was caused by the constantly low sales of thrid-party games? Or is it something else entirely?

Personally, I think the low sales of third-party titles are the culpirt. I mean, if your games aren't selling well on a particular system, then why continue to make games for it? Makes sense when you think about it.

Yeah, it's definitely because the little to no third party support but I don't think they are going to just disappear because they have an amazing first party support.  Everyone likes Mario, Link and Donkey Kong.

They won't disappear, but they are definatly a joke compared to PS3 and Xbox 360.

Yeah, but first-partty support alone won't keep the userbase satisfied. They may all love Nintendo's many franchises, but they gap between each release is too long for them to enough to keep everyone happy.

Which is why the thrid-party developers are important: because they give them something to play whist they wait for the next Nintendo blockbuster. But if they're not going to support the Wii, then what are Wii owners to play? One of those horrid mini-game collections? I doubt many Wii owners would be pleased with that -- myself included.

I remember what King wrote on his article on Wii. They badly need more 3rd party publishers.

Also, just because the Wii relies heavily on motion sensing for controls this doesn't mean every game needs to have some sort of motion sensing and I think sometimes that 3rd party developers try to fit as much motion sensing into a game that it just turns it for the worst.

Definitely. Developers shouldn't be using a feature like the Wii's motion sensing capabilities just for the sake of using it. They should be used where it makes sense to do so.

I don't know if the overabundance of such games played a part in the declining development (though it's no doubt the cause of many bad reviews), but that is definitely something they should follow. Maybe then we'd get more Wii titles that don't have bad controls.

Not a good news for Wii. Though I don't really care about it.

Another issue that I have encountered is the crazy sensitivity.  I don't know if you can tone it down, but the times I played Wii games, the controller sensitivity was an issue for me.  Maybe you get used to it, but in games like Modern Warfare Reflex Edition, I can see how that would be a problem.

Yeah, the sensitivity is adjustable. It does take a little bit to get used to pointing with the Wii, but it's not a problem at all once you've got it.
