Well, a thread like this one can be useful in the future. Sharing their experiences is something that could help avoiding it in the future. Good job!
I bought my first PS3 in December 2007, 40GB model, it was great until one year after my 40GB model decided to not read any disks. Called Sony and they that the issue is very commom in 40GB models. Then I had to back up all the gamesave data in order to not lose any progress in my games. In my country any electronic device has a warranty of two years, so about 3 months later I had a new 80GB model with Killzone 2 waiting for me.

I like this thread a lot as well canana. Randall do you mind me doing some editing of your first post providing some important information to Sony Customer Support and some other things to help others in the future if they have this problem and also leave it over to everyone so they can share some of their hard times going through such heartache? If so then I will sticky this at the top of the board once I gather some information on what to do if your PS3 breaks.

Last modified on 06 May,2010 08:47 PMI have suffered from a very un common PS3 error, It is called the red screen of death. Had to have it compeletly replaced and I lost all my game data and trophies
.EDIT- It was on my 160gb model. I wound up trading my replacement 160gb PS3 and a broken xbox360 for a 80gb b/c PS3. Couldn't be happier

I purchased it from Game Stop because I did not want to buy a slim. The only big PS3 they had in stock was the 160 and I went with that. It cost me 300 dollars and 20 dollars for a year replacement plan. So technically I payed more for a fat PS3 used than a brand new Slim. Lol.
EDIT- Whoops I forgot to add that I called up game stop and they had to order a replacement. It took 2 weeks to come, when it arrived I went in and got the console replaced. Then had to borrow 50 bucks from my gf to re buy the year of coverage. Bummer
. They jacked the price up to 40 dollars for the coverage.

I hope eventually they come out with something for the slims so that we can get PS2 games to play on it as well. Every firmware update I am crossing my fingers in hope haha. Same with the netflix, I have the streaming disc, but it'd be nice if they added a firmware update so we didn't have to use the disc as well. I also plan to get a firmware update sticky in here as well, I just haven't had the time to properly implement it yet.
Edit: Oh and the first fat PS3 I bought got the YLOD the first year I had it so I had to call up Game Crazy and they luckily had one in stock to replace it with so I went over with my receipt and exchanged it and thankfully I was only without a PS3 for about 30 minutes!

I had a launch PS3 get the YLOD after about 3 years, but someone else was playing on my PS3 at the time, and felt bad so bought me a new slim. It sucked losing all the data, but at least I got a PS3.

OMG GAME CRAZY!!! I miss that place soooo bad! We had one that was about 20 minuets, but they sadly died because the plaza and building they were in *Hollywood Video* went out of buisness. I miss both of those stores dearly. Oh and thats cool you got your PS3 replaced so quickly

OMG! The same thing happened to the Game Crazy here in Elmira, NY.
The Hollywood Video went out of business and now the closest gaming store is GameStop up by the mall, I loved that Game Crazy since it was right on my way home from work.
