I think Mafia II definitely deserves a thread on this board. The first game was a big succes and this one looks to be even better. The trailers show a great atmosphere. Probably the best game left for me this year to buy. So, is Mafia II on your to-buy list as well?

Not as of right now, since these games seem to be a lot like GTA games, but sometimes they are major disappointments as well, so after it comes out if it gets good feedback, and looks good from videos I watch on it then I will give it a chance. But with these kinds of games (Another example Godfather series) I tend to be careful before getting them.

Honestly, I don't know. I'll wait for more info about the game (reviews).

The original Mafia was uber awesome and deserved to be the game of the year in 2002. I will consider getting this simply due to the fact the game is developed by the same people who made Mafia famous.

And they're taking all the time they need to make it perfect. They're not rushing anything.

Which does make it more likely that I will give it a chance when it does come out. Smile

I've never heard of the first, and I don't have a good idea on what these games are. Doubt I'll be picking it up.

They are generally very similar to the GTA games, just with a Mafia plot, but stealing cars, killing, that sort of thing will be the bulk of hit. Probably some hitman stuff, intimidating business owners for kickbacks etc.

Games that aim for GTA style usually seem to fail (Rockstar is just too damn good and makes everyone else look bad) so I'll probably be avoiding this one unless I see some really great reviews.

Normally I agree, but a few other games have at least came close to pulling off GTA style games, one of which was the Saboteur, with better controls I would have said it might have been at least equal to GTA IV. I also heard good things about Saints Row II so I bought that (but haven't played it yet since I keep putting other games ahead of it haha) and I will try this Mafia II game as well with how much time and care they seem to have put into it so I will let you know how I think it compares to GTA since I'm a long time GTA fan as well and actually for several years GTA games and sports games were about the only games that I would play... also kind of like yourself. If the developers don't make any stupid changes or mistakes, Mafia II should be another AAA game.

The first game was fantastic. It's a third person shooter with a awesome story line. Had a lot of RPG element too. Think of a GTA game with Mafia style. It was massive and fun playing till the end.
