Which game released this year would you consider the biggest positive surprise?
By that I mean which game exceeded your expectations?

Athough not released this year, I'd say the last game to exceed my expectations was Pac-Man Championship DX. That game is so much fun!

Skydrift without a doubt. That game is amazing. And Magicka of course, even though they changed the whole game now.

@Daavpuke: I've watched some Magicka gameplay on Youtube and I actually considered buying it, even though it isn't my kinda game. It looked amazing.

Skydrift, huh? I was never much of a flying-game person, but it sure looks enjoyable!

That is surprising, because it looked pointless and forced to me. Nice.

^ it is if you actually care about the story missions.

the story missions were the very last thing i've ever done in that game. all those 40 something hours were put into just having insane fun and side missions.

Driver San Francisco. I wasn't sure about the whole "shifting" thing would work into gameplay. It worked very very well. The 2nd to last mission involves you chasing Jericho and using shift to launch cars at each other. After the ending, I just wonder what they'll do for the inevitable sequel (can't use shift for plot related reason).

I choose not to believe that, though I heard nice things.

I double their statements. The game did better than I expected. Bird's-eye view of the whole Bay area is an impressive addition. Co-op survival missions are fun too. Then again, if taken this as a racing game it might not impress you as much Hot Pursuit or other good racing games recently did. But take it as a fun n tactical driving, the game is bound to impress you.
