Developer Stage 2 Studios revealed the tip of the iceberg from their next title. Not surprisingly, the creator of Lifeless Planet is continuing the theme with a game called Lifeless Moon. A short teaser was released, which can be seen below.
Lifeless Moon will return to the same mystifying exploration of an astronaut hopping around a seemingly deserted planet. In Lifeless Planet, it eventually turns out that the area isn’t as deserted as it once seemed. So, rather logically, this new project is taking that same route. According to the trailer, there is suddenly an entire city at the end of the horizon, including a lit diner. That’s currently all the information that’s out there.
Since its release in 2014, Lifeless Planet has amassed a very respectable 1662 reviews on Steam, at the time of writing, with a 79% “mostly positive” rating. The game relies mostly on atmosphere and a certain, creepy fear of the unknown. Despite its moderate success, the attempts to make a film based on the game didn’t see the same appeal. A Kickstarter project that asked for $20,000 last year didn’t even reach a tenth of its goal.
To put it on a lighter note, the game also taught me, personally, what ambient occlusion was and its application, with one simple blog post. Using shadows around objects helps them seem more grounded. Now you know.
