It appears that Sony is going to use its muscle to make its Uncharted franchise a hit a movies theatres. Joystiq breaks the situation down as Atlas Entertainment bought the film rights with its partner, Columbia Pictures -- owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment.
The Hollywood Reporter adds more detail by saying that Kyle Ward would be doing the screenwriting adaptation with Avi Arad (Marvel Entertainment's former CEO), Charles Roven, Ari Arad and Alex Gartner producing.
The film's plot seems to stick closely to the original storyline of the game as Nathan Drake, a great-great-great grandson of Sir Francis Drake, thinks that he's figured out where El Dorado (Lost City of Gold) is after deciphering a code that his well-known descendant left on the ring he now wears. As the trail gets hotter, Drake discovered new adventures as he fights against Spaniards and Germans who sought the same city but ended up turning into mutated and cursed creatures.
With the visually stunning Uncharted 2: Among Thieves due out for PlayStation 3 in November 2009, it appears that the game's protagonist, Nathan Drake's star is rising.
