Modern Warfare 2 Price Rise  News by fishdalf

For those who don’t know; the UK has been going through a recession for the majority of the year, with consumers spending less and less of their hard-earned cash on the high street. Activision has completely ignored this fact and slapped an extra £10 onto the price tag of their upcoming game – Modern Warfare 2.

The move is set to alienate and even frustrate many gamers, who have been opting for second-hand games as oppose to new titles of late. It also worth noting that the single player campaign will only take around 10-12 hours to complete, which doesn't do much to justify the rise.

However, if the move does indeed prove successful for one of the most hotly anticipated titles of the year, then we may just see rival publishers following suit.

Modern Warfare 2 is set for a November 10th release and should cost around £55 in most reputable retailers.

A new game in my country is 60-70 Euros, that's too much in my opinion. If I'm making the correct math in the U.K. is around 80-85 pounds?(with the extra 10)

That's too much for a title, I am not buying it at launch that's for sure. Greedy Activision! Yell

I wont be buying it at that price

well thats just lame... looks like this is gonna end up being a skipped title for me, its a shame cuz I was looking forward to it but I refuse to pay an added on price for nothing. If they added that on and then included the maps they are selling in the map pack I might have considered it but this is just no for me...

Games are getting really expensive, and increasing prices in a recession won't help you make more money...

You never know, it could be a stroke on genius. I'm guessing not though. Surely they've done this because they're getting a lot of pre-orders in, that's all i can think of.

I don't see how this is a good move by Activision!

I remember reading somewhere the reason was to do with rising production and advertisement costs.

I don't know what forced them to raise the price, but I'm seriously considering not getting the game, at least not on its frist weeks of release. May be when the price goes down...

I hope a lot of people go on strike against this game and not pick it up. I'm already upset that they've increased prices for this gen, and now Activision wants to add even more? Before I was going to pass on this game anyway, but now it's even more of a not buy.

That just doesn't sound smart.  Activision would be surprised how many people won't buy this game for an extra 10 pounds... even if it is one of the most hyped games of the year.

@King: lol for one of the first times on this forum I think I agree 110% with you, I am not definetly 100% passing this up now, it was seriously gonna be a first day buy for me initially but forget it now.

British gamers should boycot this game, if it will be released on said price without any serious improvement on the package.

This is a strange move by Activision. I hope they have good reason behind it Surprised

Ahem... Wasn't Activision that put pressure on Sony to lower their prices ?

this is a very bad move, activision knows that the UK is in a recession, but dispite that fact, they add an extra 10p to the title? its really BS in my personal opinion...and the gamers have a right to protest against this

HOWEVER if modern warfare 2 ends up becoming a hit, then i guess it might be worth the extra 10p

A recent research that I made in Amazon, shows that the simple version of the game costs 45 pounds for the PS3 and 360, and 35 pounds for the PC.

i dont know my math right bur im guessin it would be about $80 canadian?  but i would gladly pay $80 for it... when you buy you support activision to make bigger and better games, new promotional items, promotional sales... and besides now that games are getting better they have to pay more to make the game in the first place
