In one of the more bizarre news stories; a 16 year-old boy from Toronto, Canada went missing from his home the night before New Year’s Eve after leaving a note to his parents stating his love for a 42 year-old woman from Houston. His parents forbid him from making contact with her, but in spite of that he did it anyway.
The couple was found two days later in a bed-and-breakfast in Ontario after his mother called the police reporting her child missing. Neither faced charges as the age of consent there is 16, but the girlfriend was sent home and may still be reprimanded for enticing the boy from her computer in Texas, which is still illegal.
They both met on the MMORPG World of Warcraft, to which the child had a strong addiction to. His parents claim that in addition to contacting the middle-aged woman his school attendance was also suffering as a result.
According to a District Attorney there were hundreds of messages shared between the two and that Ms. Price, a middle-school teacher and mother of four, was the “driving force” behind the conversations, which were “the upper end of sexual graphic-ness."
He went on to describe the boy as “somewhat naïve” and despite his parents forbidding such actions, sending him to counseling and confiscating his computer from him, still proceeded on with the relationship. It’s currently unknown whether they’re still together, but World of Warcraft has posted up messages of warning, explaining about the possible dangers of such actions and how to prevent a similar occurrence in the future.
