Wii Play tops all-time bestseller list in US  News by bluezy

The NPD Group released a list that put Wii Play at the top of the all-time best-selling non-PC games in US history.

As of October 2009, the game-and-controller bundle had sold over 11.8 million copies in North America. The NPD report did not give specific statistics along with the list.

The list counted the top 10 best-selling non-PC games in United States history and the minigame compilation led the rest, which includes three entries in the Call of Duty franchise.

The title which appears on the most platforms, though, is Namco Museum, which has seen release on 12 different consoles and handhelds.

The top 10 all-time best-selling software titles in the US, according to The NPD Group:

1. Wii Play (Wii)

2. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (PS2, PS3, Wii, Xbox 360)

3. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2, Xbox)

4. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Xbox 360, PS3)

5. Wii Fit (Wii)

6. Mario Kart Wii (Wii)

7. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (PS3, Xbox 360, DS)

8. Madden NFL 07 (PS3, PS2, PSP, Xbox, Xbox 360, Wii, GC, DS, GBA)

9. Call of Duty: World At War (Xbox 360, PS3, DS, Wii)

10. Namco Museum (DC, GBA, PS2, GC, Xbox, PSP, N64, PS3, Wii, DS, PS1, Xbox 360)

And the Wii strikes again Tongue out

I might pick that game up sometime in the future. I don't really play my Wii that much though.

MW2 at no 4. Didn't it break all the selling records already?

It's not surprising, but then again it's not really fair because more people were buying it for the Wii Mote than the game itself. I could develop a low budget game and start selling it bundled with milk for $5 and it would become one of the top selling games ever.

I thought GTA IV was breaking records at release, but it's not in the top 10? Also I wouldn't expect Namco Museum, but I guess when you put it on every system possible it's bound to sell a lot, especially when it's popular to all the people looking for a nostalgia fix.

@Sleven : I believe MW2 just broke the record of sales in a single day not overall.

but yeah I think one of the main reasons this game got a lot of attention is the extra Wii Remote that came with it.
