Given the history of terrible video game movie adaptations in the past, it’s no wonder Gabe Newell doesn’t trust Hollywood to make a movie for them. In a recent interview with PC Gamer, the Valve CEO has stated that if a Half-Life movie were ever to be made it would be made by none other than Valve. Additionally, the developer was actually approached by numerous offers in the past regarding the matter.

Gabe Newell says, "**** off, Hollywood."
“Directors down there wanted to make a Half-Life movie and stuff, so they’d bring in a writer or some talent agency would bring in writers, and they would pitch us on their story. And their stories were just so bad. I mean, brutally, the worst. Not understanding what made the game a good game, or what made the property an interesting thing for people to be a fan of.”
Newell then came to the conclusion that if anyone can make a good video game movie adaptation – which hits all the right spots and actually honors the source material – it would be the ones who made that game originally. “'Make it ourselves? Well that's impossible.' But the Team Fortress 2 thing, the Meet the Team shorts, is us trying to explore that."
If you haven’t seen the Meet the Team shorts yet, here’s your chance. And if what Gabe says is true, a Half-Life movie made by Valve would definitely be worth looking forward to.
