You know John Romero, right? He’s the reason why you’re playing First Person Shooters today. The man is largely responsible for pioneer games, such as Doom, Quake or even Deus Ex.
You must kill him, John Romero.
This, otherwise genius, individual also made some poor decisions in life. You might remember the whole Daikatana debacle, which lead him to leave Warren Spector’s Ion Storm and found Monkeystone Games. There he concentrated on making cellphone games, before allegedly leaving the company over girlfriend issues.
Well, he has now been announced as a consultant to casual game developer LOLapps. We’ll let you be the judge how well planned that decision might be, but here’s some info on them:
Concentrating on social network games, this company boasts to have over 50 million active users per month. Not only that, but it also claims having the largest network of social games on Facebook.
Founded in 2008, they were the first to generate Quiz and Gift Creator platforms for people to build their own applications. Their most recent work is Critter Island, where the objective is to attract tourists to your island and decorate it. But they also advertise games such as Dante’s Inferno, Band Of Heroes or Yakuza Lords. These are all Facebook adaptations, of course.
Romero will work with them on a yet unnamed Facebook game project, claiming “This is where the excitement is now.” He also remains active as part of Gazilliion Entertainment, which is concentrating on making MMO's..
