The Raven - Legacy of a Master Thief is a point-and-click adventure game from the creators of The Book of Unwritten Tales. The Eye of the Sphinx is the first chapter of three, releasing throughout the year.

The Raven is set in the 1960's, the first chapter introducing players to the game's protagonist, Constable Anton Jakob Zellner, and it's antagonist, The Raven. A Swiss policeman, Zellner finds himself on a train coursing through the Swiss Alps. His duty is simply to look after the train's passengers, but he soon finds himself interwoven into a much larger venture than anticipated.

The Raven was once the best thief in the world, moving from country to country, taking what he pleased, and leading police on a wild goose chase. The Raven's reign soon ended when Inspector Nicolas Legrand shot and wounded him, ending his spree, and making the Inspector famous. Years later, however, an age-old ruby goes missing from the British Museum. With few clues beyond a raven feather, many can't help but assume the Raven has returned.

The opening credits begin with a train running along it's track, through a beautiful landscape of mountains and crisp sky. With a melody to match the view, players are instantly drawn in. Benny Oschmann has worked with developer KING Art before, and has composed a masterpiece that will make everyone instantly fall in love with The Raven.

In addition to the typical point-and-click controls found in the genre, The Raven offers a way for beginners to progress through the game more smoothly. Advancing through the game earns players points that can be spent on hints. Open up the Constable's journal, use earned points, and a clue will be revealed, easing the pain of a difficult dilemma. Pressing spacebar also becomes useful as it reveals the location of all interactions in a scene. Without the help of this system and the game may become discouraging, as searching for the smallest clue and coming up with nothing begins to wear on one's enthusiasm.

The graphical styling of The Raven - Legacy of a Master Thief is nothing to boast about, though. The simplicity of character's facial expressions and semi-dramatic cut-scenes complete the overall ambiance of the first chapter. Glitches and errors within the game will only be noticed if looked for - legs seen through skirts and subtitles not matching speech.

When playing through The Eye of the Sphinx users will run into smaller puzzles within the whole. A game of shuffle board can amuse for a lengthy amount of time, perhaps having you play more than necessary. Picking a door's irritating lock will have you fuming, and then embracing the inevitable.

The Raven - Legacy of a Master Thief has opened with a bang. As the first chapter, The Eye of the Sphinx, comes to an end players will find themselves thrilled for the next piece in the series, patiently waiting to continue the adventure's of  Constable Anton Jakob Zellner and the mysterious Raven.
