One event leads to another!  Category: Games

Most of you know that I’ve recently purchased few new movies and an old game Bad Boy II. But unfortunately I couldn’t play it. The game is not supported by Win7. So, instead of reinstalling my previous OS (WinXP) I went to the store to change the game. Now here’s what has happened today.

Since the game was only $5, the shopper didn’t allow me to pick any new game. So, I was wondering standing in front of the old games racks and trying to decide which one to pick. Suddenly a bunch of guys from my college showed up and they were to sell their old games. I had around $40 in my pocket and I thought why not give it a go. So, here is what I got myself today. [This purchases cost serious bargaining skill which I think was pretty good in the end Tongue out ]

NBA 2k10 : I promised @King that I will play it if I get the chance. So, when I saw the game, I couldn’t help but take it. $10 is what it cost me. I’ve played it for few times now. The game has lots of features in it. Mostly spent my time at the practice so far and two quick games. I can’t find a way to time the shots from distance. There is a meter of 5 scales which needs to be perfected, but I can’t figure out how it works. During the practice, it says I’ve shot earlier and it was bad but I still score and sometime I don’t score but it says perfect shot. lol. I seriously need to figure out how it works.

SplinterCell Double Agent : After playing SplinterCell Conviction, I though why not give it a go. I read one review, probably from King which said it wasn’t bad. I’ve played it for 10 mins so far, where I had to investigate a biothermal plant. The game looked horrible to be honest compared to Conviction. I’m having this feeling that @7 went to dust.

Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands : It’s relatively a new game and since they came to sell it then there must be something wrong with the game. They were asking $20 for it and I finally managed them on $8. Since I’ve played all the sequel of PoP games, I thought of playing it too. Haven’t installed it yet, but I’m not expecting too much out of it.

Mirror’s Edge : @azn_pride recommended this game and I wanted to try it. Let’s see how good the games it. If bad, Gabby is definitely paying me my $9 back Tongue out

Sniper Ghost Warrior : @FetusZero will be liable if the game is bad. Paid only @3 for it. lol. Don’t call me cheap but I wasn’t really convinced what those guys were saying about it. because I pretty much remember what Fetus wrote about it. The guy who was selling it; called me a jerk when I said $2 in response to his $15. But I take anything during my bargain. Because all it matters what I pay in the end Wink

2010 FIFA World Cup : Never wanted to play it. WC games are not always good. But @canana wrote a preview on it and it didn’t sound bad. So if the game isn’t really good, canana owes me $5 Tongue out

And, finally Overload 2 : I always wanted to play it but never found it at the old games rack. Today I did and replaced it with Bad Boys II Laughing

In the end, I end up with 6 new games (one replacement) with only $35 and $5 for the subway. It was a pretty good day in the end Laughing

You know what's funny? I recently reinstalled Sniper because they have added Steam Achievements in it, along with a few updates addressing most of the issues people had (namely the stealth being crappy and the enemies being dead eye shots even from a hundred meters with a handgun). So, out of curiosity and my endless desire for achievements, I reinstalled it. It definitely isn't Game of the Year, nor even close to it, but it's still enjoyable.

I really REALLY loved Mirror's Edge. So many hated it though, but hey, they're just bad and don't know how to play it ;p I truly loved it although it was too easy.. perhaps way too easy. Small tip: DON'T USE THE GUNS. Using the guns make this game easier than the easiest of game you have ever played, it's ridiculous, plus it removes any kind of 'speed running' momentum feeling.. it basicaly destroys the whole idea behind the game. I repeat: Don't use the guns, or you will be sorry, lol.

@azn_pride : You can can but can't run. I'm going to find that post of yours Tongue out

@FetusZero : Now you sound more interesting than your blog. I had the game for the last play, but I'll play it earlier. I will finish SplinterCell first then Mirro's Edge. Then comes your Sniper. I will keep that advice in mind btw Smile

Here we go. Knocking down mid to long distance shots can be a little challenging, but all it takes is learning the game. Getting to know the shot mechanics of the players on the team you use most is key, and then you'll figure out how to time each one. It's also important to know which ones are the best at shooting from deep because those guys obviously have a better chance at making it.  I will tell you though, that from my experience in practice modes, the whole early, perfect, late release etc. scale isn't very consistent. Pay attention to it for free throws, but jump shots you might as well ignore it. The biggest factor in hitting long shots in a real game is running an offense at creating space for the shooters. Only a few guys are able to consistently knock down shots with a defender in their face, so your best bet is to keep things flowing, and once you see one of your players break away with an opening outside, quickly get it to him and shoot.

These are all PC games you said? Splinter Cell DA isn't a great game, but if you like stealth games I think it's enjoyable. I also got it for a low price, so I thought it was worth it. I'm not going to pay for it for you. Tongue out If you keep playing though, I think it gets better after the first level. Don't hold it against me though if you still don't like it, it's been a while since I played it. And yeah the graphics do suck, but I think this was one of the first next-gen games.

Splinter Cell was terrible and difficult in my opinion Frown.  The only fun I had was in co-op, but then again I did have the GameCube version.

Judging by your bargain skills I must say that you should plan to become a purchase manage of any distribution company.

Among the games, Overload 2 and NBA 2k10 are the only two games worth playing. Mirror’s Edge is a nothing amazing but not that bad either. But I hope you have fun playing them all. You could’ve taken a friend with yours for a subway treat instead of wasting cash on Double Agent.

The bargaining strategy still continues in Singapore. I remember buying SNES cartridges in Singapore where my dad was keeping on bargaining. I thought it was only applicable to cartrdges but I can see its still applied to newer games. Good good. Maybe I should come to Singapore and buy some more game at low price coz in US its still expensive. I have Slinter Cell Double Agent and somehow something is not driving me to finish this game. I havent finished this game. Glad that you replaced the Overload II game with Bad Boys 2. Based on the reviews and videos I have seen, I can consider this a Bad game. So in total $40. Nice!!! Is it in US dollar or Singapore dollars. If its the latter one then double nice then I should defnitely book a transit flight to SIngapore when I come back and forth the US through the Pacific. Maybe I can consider booking Singapore Airlines. I miss the SNES games in the SIA seats. Good old memories.

Sigh the Fetus virus is not going away!!!

@biZZy : I'm saving it for the last. Will just check it for lan play with friends.

@King : I'll be pouring more hours into this game and see if I can master your advice. You clearly make sense though. I should've tried it with different players. Shooting in front of an opponent and scoring is really difficult. So, I try to zip into the center and score from there. It's obviously a matter of time really. I remember when I played NBA 2000, I was pretty good with long range shooting.

And, I will finish Splinter Cell. I hate to keep games unfinished no matter how bad they are. The graphics is really horrible and specially after playing Conviction, I'm finding it difficult to rise my apeal towards this game. lol

@DeltaX : I can't wait to start Mirror's Edge. Since it's a short and easy game, I think I'll finish it by a day play. Sunday perhaps then.

@bigbadsad : Thanks mate Smile

@-Moroes- : I wish I could read these comments about Double Agent before buying it

@deliduck : I will sis. Thanks Smile

@RON : lol. Thanks but I plan to become a professional sports figure Laughing 2k10 is fun so far and haven't started Overload2. I'll play it after I finish Mirros's Edge.

@Arctic : Double Agent was a pure waste. Rest of them are ok imo.

@Koshai : All in Singapore dollars mate. And, it's true that we do bargain a lot when we buy. But if you come here, I'm sure how much successful you will be Tongue out

I never plan for long blogs but this one somehow becoem larger than my usual blog size. It's the virus trying to affect me

@Daktary : LOL. I thought so too but Double Agent got me.

I am a huge Sam Fisher fan!  He is among my top 5 video game protagonists.  DA  may  not be the best in  the series but I enjoyed playing it at times.  Some people like the new PoP but I haven't played it yet.  It is nervy to play acrobatic games without free saves. Mirror's Edge is good but my copy was too buggy so one had to install the patch right after the beginning.

@biZZy : Let's hope I do Wink

@WillX47 : I've paused playing games for the tagging contest. I'm sure Overload will be fun Laughing

@Tecil_Mors : I liked Sam in Conviction the most. King said the same thing about DA. Let's see how it goes ahead. I'm not playing it because of the tagging contest. Sam needs to wait a bit Laughing

@monica_cz : Thanks. I'm sure I will  Smile
