Amnesia Demo now Available!  Category: Games

Hello everyone who is reading this! I come forth to bring you a great announcement from Frictional Games, which is already spoiled by the title of this blog. Indeed, it is true, after reading my past blogs on the subject of Amnesia: The Dark Descent, the demo has finally been officially released!

Here are the words I have received through e-mail:

- - - - - - - - - -

Today Frictional Games, the makers of the Penumbra series, has released a demo for their upcoming first person survival horror “Amnesia: The Dark Descent”. Players with Windows, Mac or Linux all get a chance to experience a small slice of the dread and terror contained in the full game.

The game begins with Daniel awakening in a desolate Prussian castle, without any memories to explain his situation. A letter written by himself, reveals that the amnesia is actually self-inflicted. The mysterious message urges him to seek out and kill Alexander, a man residing deep below the castle. Hunted by a dark shadow, Daniel can see no other way out than to trust his former self. If he is to save his life and mind, he needs to find out what it is all really about. It is his only hope for salvation. A dark descent awaits.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a first person horror game with focus on immersion. It is a game where atmosphere and story comes first. Amnesia will be released on the 8th of September and can be purchased in Frictional Game's own online store as well as most major online retailers.

We would also like to seize the opportunity and inform all that there is a 10% discount on Amnesia if you pre-order. For those who are longing for some horror gaming this weekend, the Penumbra series costs 70% less in our own store and at Gamer's Gate!

Trailer - Developer Walkthrough

Today we also released a new trailer, it's a developer walkthrough of the physics interaction in Amnesia. If you ever had problems explaining how the interaction in our games work, perhaps this trailer can be of use to you! Watch it on YouTube!

Here you have the whole story. I know this isn't in my habit of blogging, but I felt there were no better words but the ones from the kindly written newsletter to provide every information needed. In short, the Amnesia demo has been released today and is available on Windows, Linux and MAC. You can find the various download locations as a direct download or a torrent on www.amnesiagame.com along with more information regarding the game if you wish.

Personally, while I am craving to see what the game looks like and am quite eager at playing it as it releases in a mere 5 days (Sept. 8th), I still won't download the demo. I simply do not want to spoil myself with whatever it is that can found in there and would rather experience the game as a whole next Wednesday, but for anyone out there who hasn't heard or are not certain about the game, this is your opportunity at trying out the new game created by none other than some of the best psychological survival horror developers I know: Frictional Games.

Here are some of the trailers and videos of the game, two of which came to life only recently, and on this I say have a good day, afternoon, evening or night and enjoy the videos and demo!

@David_D: Starting September 8th I will stop being on PS3 for sure lol, or any other game for that matter.. well maybe not, as I'll probably receive my new Touhou games and eXceed3rd next week if all goes well. Plus, I'll need a break every now and then.. if this is anything like Penumbra, the majority of my time I will be standing still in fear of progressing further lol.

I'v decided not to check out the demo and just wait until my prepaid order comes avaliable. I didn't know that more videos came out perhaps I'll watch them in anticipation of the game.

Stop posting tempting blogs. Sometime do think of our wallets too. Well, the Descent water horror got me into it. I want this game. Like you, I won’t ruin the fun with demo. I remember our Silent hill talk. I don’t think I’ve played any good horror game after that. Except RE5, which isn’t a horror game imo.

You woke up in the morning and decided to scare us all. That's the story you didn't write before the videos Tongue out I watched the video without blinking my eyes. What happened after you dropped down in the Hatch Puzzle gameplay?

Since I dont have my Xbox for the time being (my cousin is having that for the time being), I will consider getting this game, coz my PC is hungry for games.

I remember you kept talking about this game. I remember the trailer too. But I'm not sure I'm up for any thriller atm. I have so MANY games to finish right now.

Jen: I still watched them myself, but I refuse to touch the demo no matter how much I deeply want to play it right now. I recently received an e-mail from Frictional giving me the details of the pre-order, so I supose you got it too and now know where you will go to get your copy. Good news too, I can download BOTH the Windows and Linux versions according to the e-mail, as well as activate it on Steam. Woo :]

Ron: I agree with your statement on RE5, but unfortunately, many people still consider it as horror which to me gives people the wrong idea about what horror is lol. If you do decide to pick it up, I hope you enjoy it :] Right at that moment it's something like $15 on Steam, oh and the Penumbra Collection is $6 on Frictional Games store too ;p

Xiao: Couldn't say, I'm not the one who did it lol, it's a 'gameplay trailer' coming straight from Frictional Games and I love the way they make us hear what is happening, but do not show it. Now that builds up anticipation quite well :]

Koshai: Then I highly recommend you to try out the free demo of the game if you aren't sure about the game. But as many sites have stated so far (like IGN), horror fans should get this, people for whom the game got their attention should get it, actually pretty much every general PC gamer should get it lol. I have to say that Frictional Games is one of these indie developers that truly stand a chance in the industry and receive nothing but positive reviews from most websites and large gaming communities, so it's worth a shot.

Sleven: Yeah I do too, but Amnesia takes the cake for me. Right now, the only game that could get in the way of Amnesia for me is if they'd finally anounce a Megaman X9 game, in which they unveil the true vilain behind the whole thing.. most fans already know who it is, as it is quite obvious, but the only thing we want is for them to actually unveil it. Otherwise, there isn't a single game that will get in the way of Amnesia lol.. I actually even though about taking a whole week off of work for the release, but I took it two weeks before instead otherwise I would have killed people at my job (not literally, but you get it).

I got the email today. Whoot whoot. I'm glad they are letting one be able to activate it on either OS and on Steam and all that. I'm exctied for the game sooo excited to try it... Yay!

Yea I get it. You are a 100% pure Megaman fan. lol. But I'm a little confused. I remember last time you blogged about Megaman 12. Why is it X9 now?

@FetusZero : Well I wish you the best of times with your new games. I'm sure we'll still bug each other on WLM here and there let each other know what we think of the progress we have made, etc. I shall look forward to the new games I have today as well as the one I am currently playing now and the one I will probably get back from Shaun on Tuesday since he tends to finish games rather fast he will probably be done with it by then after having 2 days off from work. Smile

@Xiao @deliduck @Sleven @David_D

Xiao: I'll try lol, but much with their own stuff, chances are you won't see anything from my videos either.

Jen: Yep, and I'll be downloading both the Steam and Linux version. While I don't game too often on Linux, it's still handy to have if I want to play it.

Sleven: There wouldn't be a Megaman 12 in a very long time, since the last one was Megaman 10 lol. At the point where the classic series is, personally, they should stop it there on jump on another series. Anyway, the Megaman series is known for its plotholes and as they release more titles, these plotholes still aren't filled. But I'd really love a X9 in which they show Dr. Wily as the fnal boss, that's honestly the only reason I'd like a X9, despite being 100% sure they wouldn't show him but merely hint at it once more, as with every other games in the series -_-

David: Gotta go get my grilled cheese lol... alright! I hope you'll like Bioshock, since you bought both because of me lol, don't want to make me feel bad now do you ;p Rest assured that I'll like Amnesia and you will most likely hear a lot about it.. Actually you'll probably see me pop up every couple of minutes swearing in every ways possible and saying I almost got a heart attack or something, that's how it will go lol.

So when is it coming? I sometime wonder why you like this game so much. I know you like it but you know..why so much? I still have a game to be liked so much you do for the Megaman.

I'll watch any video you upload for the candies Laughing

Sleven: That's when I remember I still need to lay off of my lazy behind and continue writting up my second portion of the Megaman blogs lol. There has been just way too many games lately and I haven't put any time into Megaman -_- But quite honestly, there's no definitive answer lol.

Xiao: Done ;p
