5 Beginner Tips for Middle-earth: Shadow of War

Shadow of War is finally out and if you're new to the series it's likely you'll feel overwhelmed with all the options available to you. We've created a guide of 5 tips that should aid in your quest against Sauron.

Use Stealth

Shadow of War's stealth gameplay is much more lenient than other stealth games like Dishonored and Metal Gear Solid, but that doesn't mean it's ineffective. In fact, stealth can save your life and widdle down the opposing force. If timed properly you can rush an enemy head first and perform a stealth kill, but you must be dedicated. If you're playing to stealth kill from the front rush in using the Elven speed ability and quickly perform the kill.

Stealth can be a helpful kiting tool. Since enemies will generally chase your last known location you can run circles around them. By breaking the line-of-sight of enemies you can effectively perform multiple stealth kills without leaving the area.

Change Your Gear

As you play Shadow of War you'll gain access to a myriad of different gear options and it's important to check frequently for the best combinations. Having the best stats isn't enough, different weapons yield specific bonuses that are useful in certain situations. The Nemesis system will constantly throw different variations of Uruks at you and it's important to have the best gear for each situation. 

Use the Market

Yes, many people hate Shadow of War's microtransaction. While they're optional the developers have included ways to earn chest by completing Online Vendetta missions and collecting currency within the game. While you can use this money to acquire gem slots for your armor and weapons using them on chests is much more profitable in the long term.

Don't Rush into a Fortress

This is probably a no-brainer but rushing into a Fortress without a plan is not a bright plan. Instead, weaken the ranks by eliminating high-ranking Uruks. If you don't you'll find yourself outmatched in the siege. Since all the Warlord's bodyguards are high ranking Uruks with some of the most deadly abilities in Shadow of War fighting them one-on-one instead of all at once is best.

Find the Poems

The highlight of Shadow of War is killing Uruks but in each of Shadow of War's regions are Ithildin symbols. Collecting them all will unlock a sealed room with a special piece of loot. We already have a guide up for the poetry puzzle so all you have to do is collect them all. To do so simply purify the towers and use the eye to highlight the locations of hidden collectables.
