Bethesda's biggest fails

Bethesda is one of the most respected video game developers and publishers in the industry. With so many acclaimed titles lets not forget Bethesda has a few skeletons in their closets. Here are the top 5 fails from Bethesda.

5. Rogue Warrior

Bethesda is known for making some incredible titles but some just didn't live to expectations. Titles such as Brink had a short shelve life and The Elder Scrolls Online would recover thanks to numerous patches and a free-to-play model later introduced. However, Rogue Warrior remains one of Bethesda's most infamous titles.

Launched in 2006 the game faced harsh criticism because of its short campaign and boring gameplay. Fans were equally frustrated with the title, making one of Bethesda's least popular published titles.

4. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Horse Armor DLC

Back in 2006 DLC was still in its early stages. Microsoft had a point system instead of currency and the idea of DLC expansions didn't gain traction till the release of Borderlands' 4 DLC packages. However, one of the more infamous releases was Bethesda's cosmetic horse armor, which is still on sale.

During this generation of consoles, the horse armor was one of the most shocking examples of paid DLC. Adding nothing to the gameplay and simply being something that makes your horse look pleasant.

3. Paid Mods

One of Steam and Bethesda's most shocking decisions was the idea of paid mods. While on paper it sounded like a good idea, give popular mods a chance to earn some revenue for their work but the execution wasn't. The system quickly became flooded with poor mods for absurd prices and those who created popular mods were overshadowed. Gamers quickly review bombed Bethesda titles forcing Valve to close the program and Bethesda issuing a statement.

In 2017 Bethesda introduced the Creation Club, which gained a similar reception.

2. PlayStation 3 Version of Fallout 3 and Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

If you owned a PS3 and attempted to play Skyrim or Fallout 3 you were in for a world of hurt. Both titles suffered from huge lag spikes as the PlayStation 3 versions would constantly save the game, increasing the size of the files. Basically, the more you played the longer the lag spikes duration. One the Xbox 360 and PC side the games ran better but suffered from issues all Bethesda titles faced.

1. Launches

Open world games are notorious for having problems at launch but Bethesda titles are much more likely to suffer from issues. While some of these problems can range from hilarious bugs to entertaining animation issues some can cause game breaking problems and even erase game files. This has led to some gamers avoiding Bethesda titles at launch until several patches are released.
