Bionic Commando:Then and Now

Bionic Commando is a 1987 action platform game released by Capcom for the arcades. It was later released for several home computers (ported by Software Creations and published by Go!).The protagonist of the game is a commando equipped with a bionic arm featuring a grappling gun, allowing him to pull himself forward or swing from the ceiling. The series is notable for being one of few instances of a platform game in which the player cannot jump. To cross gaps or climb ledges, the hero must use his bionic arm.The player transverses through the five levels: from a forest to a base, in order to stop a threatening armed force. The levels themselves are, like any conventional platformer, straightforward and semi-linear, with many situations in which there are enemies and other dangers lurking, while at the same time, cliffs that must be passedthrough.

Bionic Commando Rearmed is an update / homage to the classic 8-bit NES game.Thegame features updated graphics, new areas, additional features and online leaderboards. You play as Nathan "Rad" Spencer, a soldier who has been enhanced through a bionic arm that includes a grappling hook that he can fire to reach distant objects. In each game level, you must navigate to an end goal, facilitated by using the bionic arm to swing across gaps or climb to higher ledges.Whilst mostly remaining true to the original NES title, a number of gameplay enhancements were made to the game such as a health bar replaces the previous system, meaning players collect health items from enemies to restore health, as opposed to gaining more hit points. The game also features challenge rooms which involves using the bionic arm to get from start to finish in the fastest time possible.

Bionic Commando is a direct sequel to the second game and its remake Bionic Commando Rearmed, released in 1988 for the NES and in 2008 as a download for current gen systems. Initial speculation pegged the game as a sandbox third person action game. However, more recent information suggests it will be more linear. The player will be able to swing around Ascension City and other environments such as canyons, which will feature multiple routes that will require players to use various swinging techniques. Spencer (the protagonist of this game) is also able to target enemies while hanging upside down, climbing a building or even in mid-swing, while using an implement called the Bionic Arm which can be used to attack enemies at close range. He can also use it to grab and launch objects such as boulders and cars at enemies. In addition, he is equipped with boots that enable him to kick said objects at enemies, as well as throw them. The game is set for release in all PAL territories on May 22, 2009, with the PC release shortly thereafter.
