The next logical question is when can we expect to see Grand Theft Auto 6 released?

One of this generation's most anticipated games is undoubtedly Grand Theft Auto 6. There have been a few leaks about the game's story, settings, and characters, so the anticipation seems to be building in the correct direction. In light of Rockstar's official announcement, the trailers and screenshots that have been released, the anticipated release date, and the spoiler area dedicated to the events surrounding the Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks, we've decided to discuss what we know about Grand Theft Auto 6 so far. And since we may be on the eve of an announcement from Rockstar Games, we'll cover everything we know about the game.
In September, Grand Theft Auto 5 will have been out for ten years, and in October, Rockstar will reveal the sequels to both GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption. We may not know when exactly Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released, but we do know a great deal more about the game than we did about prior GTA releases. The enormous breach in 2022 is ultimately responsible for the plethora of newly available details. Much information regarding the forthcoming Grand Theft Auto was revealed, including the game's setting, new characters, and more.
Let's back up a bit and begin with the announcement of Grand Theft Auto 6 by Rockstar on February 4, 2022 - "Many of you have been asking about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series, and while they didn't label it that, that's basically what they said. Our goal with each new undertaking is to substantially improve our past work. To our delight, production on the second installment in the series has begun. Further information will be released as soon as it is ready, so keep an eye on the Rockstar Newswire for updates. Your belief in us means the world to us, and we look forward to sharing the future with you."
And thanks to the leaks, we learned a great deal. We won't be able to cover every little point, but we will get to the major ones. As for the forthcoming Grand Theft Auto game, we may expect it to take place in present-day Miami, appropriately named Vice City. So, Ray Liotta's Tommy Vercetti last appeared in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and we last saw Vice City in Rockstar's portable title Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. The sights and sounds of Vice City may be familiar, but the layout has changed significantly.
For instance, Vice City came out on PlayStation 2 and Vice City Stories on PSP. Those Maps' capabilities would obviously be constrained by the hardware and software available at the time. Rockstar probably won't disappoint fans by including recognizable landmarks, though. Recall their antics in San Andreas's Grand Theft Auto 5? The leaks have shown us that Grove Street is present, as with other familiar settings like the Malibu Club, South Beach, and even Red Hill Forest. We also have a good idea of who Jason and Lucia will be; they are modeled after Bonnie and Clyde, real-life outlaws operating during the Great Depression.
From the leaks, we also know that Grand Theft Auto 6 will have many bizarre events and Easter eggs, such as a Scarface crime scene, UFO, Animal House, voice in the storm drain, sex robots in the Warehouse, casinos, and much more. There will also be familiar elements from previous Grand Theft Auto games, such as nightclubs with plenty of female NPC to call for a dance, scuba diving to explore the depth of an ocean, collecting wreckage from the sea, exploring the outdoors, riding airboats, and encounters with canines, crocs, and raccoons.
A few months later, on July 7, 2022, Rockstar updated the online communities for Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead, discussing the upcoming Grand Theft Auto game once more. They stated, Over the past few years, we have been steadily shifting more development resources towards the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series, understanding more than ever the need to exceed players' expectations and for this entry to be the best it can possibly be. Because of this, we are now revising our service for Red Dead Online.
This news update stated that future Red Dead Online updates would be less frequent because Rockstar was diverting resources to develop Grand Theft Auto 6. Rockstar Games has not included any official artwork, logo, or screenshots in either of the two announcements. We have no idea what gaming systems it will support. We can only speculate as to what platforms it will be available on and whether or not a PC version will follow.
The next logical question is when can we expect to see Grand Theft Auto 6 released? The game is expected to drop in late 2025. And the proof for this is...? The data was provided by Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games. Take-Two Interactive projected a $8 billion revenue year in 2024 back in May of this year. That's a lot of cash, and although Grand Theft Auto Online is still a major moneymaker for Rockstar, the business only made $5 billion in its most recent fiscal year. A new Grand Theft Auto game is the only item that could generate that many reservations; therefore, that's the obvious answer.
A document from the legendary Microsoft-Activision takeover saga likewise confirms the 2024–2025 time frame. Microsoft predicted that the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 will occur in 2024 in their submission to the UK's Competition and Markets Authority. Other than that, we know nothing about Grand Theft Auto 6, and the only information we have comes from Take-Two Interactive's chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick, who has basically said in several interviews the same thing they tell us in these earnings calls.
Then there's the fact that on September 19, 2022, Rockstar officially recognized the leaks of Grand Theft Auto 6. The company stated that someone broke into our network and stole sensitive data, including prototypes of the forthcoming Grand Theft Auto game. There will be no immediate impact on our ongoing projects, and we do not expect any downtime for our live gaming Services. We are deeply shocked that information about our next game has been leaked in this manner.
The development of the next Grand Theft Auto game will proceed as scheduled, and we are just as dedicated as ever to giving you, the players, an experience that completely blows away your expectations. We'll let you know when the next update is coming, and of course, we'll give you a full introduction to the next game when it's finished. We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding as we work through this crisis.
As of the end of August 2023, that is pretty much all we know about GTA 6, the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto series. That should keep you up to speed until Rockstar makes their formal announcement, which hopefully won't be too far off. I'd think that much of the game's plot has been officially leaked at this point, regardless of whether Rockstar is happy about it.
