How Gears 5's Recent Updates Gave New Life To The Campaign
Gears 5's recent update made playing through the campaign even better

Recently The Coalition released a brand new free update for Gears 5 celebrating the release of the Xbox Series X/S. Adding a ton of new options to the campaign that made playing through it a thrill again. Adding a ton of new easter egg-themed content, something that harkens back to retro gaming.
Cheat codes have become an increasing rarity within games. Typically games would include performance-enhancing codes such as infinite lives, less damage, and other boosts to make playing the game easier. However, more often developers would include easter egg-themed codes such as big head mode, altering the visuals, and cool unlocks for the sole purpose of fun. That's what this new update for Gears 5 does.
Now players can not only play as WWE Superstar Batista in the campaign, complete with facial expressions and voices within the cutscenes but the Swarm as well. That right, you can dawn the skins of the Swarm Elite when playing through the campaign. Like Batista, the character models are fully featured in the game's cutscenes but not the voices, which makes sense. Seeing Elite Drones and a Hunter interact with Marcus and the rest of the COG was just plain fun to see but The Coalition when further.
They added mutators to make the game easier or harder, filters to change the visuals, and even the ability to use custom skins for weapons and characters. This doesn't seem like a big deal but it made unlocking these various skins that more valuable and rewarding. Seeing my various skins for JD, Kait, or Del in the campaign along with my Halloween themed guns was a delight.
Combined this with quality of life improvements like New Game Plus and you have a much better experience. It makes playing through the game more fun having access to all my earned items and the custom skins made rewatching a lot of the scenes much more enjoyable. I will be expecting these similar enhancements for the next installment though. And maybe the ability to play as various Swarm skins, maybe even the original Locust like RAAM or Myrrah.
