Let's Predict - Batman: The Telltale Series Episode 5 City of Lights
What will happen in Batman: The Telltale Series Episode 5 City of Lights?
by Grayshadow on Nov 23, 2016
The penultimate episode of Batman: The Telltale Series is now available and while it lacks the flare of the past three episodes it does an outstanding job of setting up for the finale. Now faced with a crumbling Gotham Bruce Wayne must find a way to save the city and his family’s name. Taking into account everything that transpired in Batman: Episode 4 I’m going to do what’s natural and predict what’s episode 5 will focus on.
Joker’s Involvement
The Joker finally makes his grand debut in Episode 4 and drops a lot of information. Not only does he know who Lady Arkham, and drops hints about knowing Bruce’s identity, is but her entire operation and legacy. The Joker isn’t only a master criminal but a brilliant chemist.
It’s highly probably that he help create the serum being used by Lady Arkham. Perhaps they had a deal, he crafts the serum and she helps him escape. Joker asks Bruce for a favour, one specifically one favour, and this could mean a number of things but it’s likely he wants a vial of the serum.
We already saw in the final moments of Episode 4 that Oswald values his relationship with Lady Arkham, enough to refuse Batman’s questions. Joker, on the other hand, has a notorious reputation for not being a pawn in someone else's plans. Perhaps he agreed to help Lady Arkham in developing the serum but she got wind what he actually wanted, double-crossed him, and left him in Arkham. With Bruce Wayne now there Joker saw it as an opportunity to gain access to the serum, all he had to do was help Bruce break out.
Vikki’s Abusive Parents
After the violent crime committed by Vikki to gain access to her father’s warehouse Batman makes a note that Vikki sliced her mother’s eyes out with a knife. Clearly, she had some issues with her foster parents to murder them in such a vicious way. Vikki’s stepbrother ask Batman not to take him to “punish”. It’s likely that the relationship she had with her foster parents could’ve aided in her transformation to Lady Arkham.
Acceptance
This entire time we’ve been led to believe that Bruce’s parents were criminals who used their power and wealth to take advantage of the people in Gotham. Falcone and Mayor Hill wanted power and complete control, and the Waynes as well. Since the grand reveal, Bruce was instantly tethered to their history despite never committing the atrocities they did.
In the final description, it states “Bruce discovers a renewed sense of purpose”. This hints that Bruce attempts his parent’s legacy and decides to move past it. In the first episode, Falcone tells Batman about his parents and Bruce questions his entire life, such as the point of becoming Batman and protecting people. With this new sense of purpose, Bruce decides that he choice to be Gotham savior was his own, and not because of his parent’s death.
