The Insect Glaive looks amazing in Monster Hunter Wilds.

We are getting more and more weapons unveiled from the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds. I’m happy to see that we already have confirmation that the Insect Glaive makes an appearance in this game as well. We have a brand new moveset and a more automated essence gathering system to look forward to here.
Right off the bat, we see an awesome new spinning move, which I can’t wait to try out. The way you can have your character just flailing around on the weapon like it is some pole dance gave me a chuckle when I first saw it.
The video starts with the Chatacabra armor set and weapon, which, despite likely being a lower-tier set, still looks pretty cool. I also noticed the hunter’s hair physics. Seems like Capcom is going the extra step with the visual fidelity this time in Monster Hunter Wilds.
One of the first things we see is the return of the Insect Glaive’s aerial circle attack. However, the preview doesn’t show much more of the weapon’s aerial gameplay. This has me a bit concerned that the Insect Glaive might be more grounded this time around.
Personally, I’ve always loved staying airborne with this weapon, even if it wasn’t always the most effective strategy. So, I’m hoping it’ll still be viable for those of us who like to spend as much time as possible in the air. The Kinsect looks fantastic, with noticeable graphical improvements. To me, it resembles the MaulDrone from Monster Hunter World and Rise.
You also get to see the new UI that shows up when you use the Insect Glaive. You can now see which essence you at by looking at the monster on the top left of the screen. You can also see which essence you will get on the crosshair on the screen itself.
This is a huge quality-of-life improvement, especially for newcomers. Additionally, it seems like the Kinsect automatically returns after gathering essence. This is another huge nice-to-have.
The new Focus Mode for the Insect Glaive looks promising. It appears that you can attack and gather essence at the same time, without needing to use the L2 aiming controls from previous games. Whether this is a new feature of Focus Mode or just part of the weapon’s updated moveset, it could make essence gathering feel a lot easier to pull off.
We also get to see some more new aerial attacks and it seems like the assist kinsect is back in Monster Hunter Wilds, as the preview shows the kinsect fighting alongside the hunter, doing coordinated attacks as well.
Finally, we get a glimpse of an epic new move where the hunter impales the Balahara and spins around in a wild attack. My guess is that this could be the Insect Glaive’s new mounted finisher, which could potentially knock the monster down.
