>Resident Evil 7 may be on everyone’s minds right now but Capcom isn’t done with their previous games. Resident Evil Zero HD Remaster, the prequel to the critically acclaimed Resident Evil, was playable at NYCC. While it remains loyal to the original game, the remake offers new additions that makes playing the updated version much easier for beginners while tailoring to the older generation.
This is an HD remake, don’t expect any changes to the original game except HD visuals and new controls. The updated scheme, which can be swapped with the original control system at any time, allows for more mobility. With it players can move Rebecca without having to turn, giving players full 3D maneuverability. Also included is an aim-assist option. This doesn’t increase the accuracy of your shots but instead allows the player to switch between each enemy at will.
The section of the game made available was limited to the opening train section. Rebecca, now separated from her team, attempts to recon the situation only to encounter the inflicted and one Billy Coen. The game looks outstanding, with the exception of Rebecca’s eyes which resemble an anime character.
I was able to talk about Wesker Mode with one of the developers, a new addition to Resident Evil Zero that allows players to control the super-powerful Albert Wesker and a hypnotized Rebecca Chambers. Wesker will have his full arsenal of supernatural abilities, according to the developer who described the mode as “Stupid fun”. I would’ve loved to see this mode first hand but for now it’s behind closed doors.
Resident Evil Zero HD Remake takes the original Resident Evil experience and gives it another face lift. While remaining loyal to the franchise Capcom has attempted to add new concepts to make the formula feel fresh. If you love classic survival-horror you should keep your eyes on this game.
