Pick a unit, pick a weapon, and start fighting. That is Special Force 2 in a nutshell. Developed by Dragonfly and published by Gameforge, S.K.I.L.L Special Force 2 is a fast paced first-person action shooter that hardcore fans of the genre will quickly pick up and devour.
You play as a specialized Delta operative or tough-as-nails Spetsnazspecialist sporting a golden AK103 or a crossbow. Special Force 2 features a wide array of customization. From the outfit of your soldier to primary, secondary, and special weapons, players are able to buy items of their choosing if they have enough credits. The shop uses in-game currency (SP) or Cash that is more exclusive to Extras – which are mostly visuals for the player’s weapon. Upon picking a unit, licenses for other units can be purchased via the in-game store.
Performance is not at its best and even having a top-notch rig will still have moments of awkward graphical lag-spikes. Beta is beta.Graphical fidelity is decent as the Unreal Engine powers good performance at no loss for visuals. Corridors and mostly the inside of buildings give off a nicely crafted atmosphere and create pressure for an enemy can be around any corner. Remember – check those corners.
Weapons feel responsive and adjusted to the fast gameplay. Always in motion is a must as spawn points rapidly change and you may get backstabbed or flanked within seconds. Since the title is still in beta, there are bound to be issues and mostly with a very familiar feature: the killcam. SF2 features a killcam system very similar to Call of Duty’s. You get picked off, you see yourself through the eyes of your killer but it will sometimes show the final shot way off the target.
Currently, it features 4 game modes - Single (Free-for-All), Team Deathmatch (your typical team based experience), Seizure (Capture the Flag) and Blasting (Search and Destroy). There are only 3 maps for now – Russian factory, Desert camp and Hangar.
S.K.I.L.L Special Force 2 is in open beta and available to all who want to try it out. It requires agile reflexes in the style of Counter-Strike due to small maps and mostly close quarters combat. It adopts a memorable element from a memorable title in the form of the killcam and does a fairly decent job at mashing-up past fast-paced FPS games.
For an FPS enthusiast, to not check out S.K.I.L.L Special Force 2 would be a war crime. It features just about everything you would want from a quick drop-in fast-respawn FPS action game. Due to its launcher, it is very easy to jump right in to any battle that is desired with your custom designed pimping Soldier.
