As with most entertainment industries, the gaming landscape is ever changing. From virtual and augmented reality to gaming on demand, let’s look at our predictions for 2024 in terms of what we can expect in the gaming world.

Cloud Gaming: The New Norm?

Cloud gaming, or gaming on demand, is a type of online gaming that allows you to stream games remotely on all your devices. The range of games you can play, the fact that you can instantly access and stream them anywhere, and all the computer space it allows you to save, thanks to the absence of installations and downloads, make us believe this tech is here to stay.

One thing to consider with this type of gaming is, of course, the need for stable and secure connections that won't jeopardize your hardware or sensitive information. It's easy to become complacent, especially if you've never experienced being hacked before. However, it's crucial to consider protective measures as they can save you a world of heartache in the long run.

We'd recommend accessible and cost-effective tools like ExpressVPN. It reroutes your traffic through an encrypted tunnel, keeping your data protected and private. This is incredibly beneficial for cloud gaming as, by encrypting your IP address, a VPN rids you of any throttling, lagging, or bandwidth caps.

As such, with easy ways to access a reliable and fast connection, we predict cloud gaming will be the norm for most players sooner rather than later.

VR and AR

The second element we think we’ll see a lot of in the gaming landscape in 2024 is VR and AR. Whether through three-dimensional simulations or the superimposition of digital images onto reality, the idea of a fully immersive gaming experience and the doors it opens to the gaming world have long been on the radar of game and tech developers.

However, one of the challenges here is still the price and accessibility of the headsets that are needed for these experiences. A good example of this is Apple’s upcoming VR/AR headset, the Vision Pro, which is priced at a whopping $3,500. And that’s in addition to an appointment-only in-store fitting that buyers need to learn how to use the headset, as detailed by Forbes.

Nonetheless, while we feel like VR and AR tech is yet to fully deliver on the gaming front, it will for sure be something tech companies will keep investing in, considering the deafening hype around it.

2024 Game Releases

Lastly, we wanted to touch on one of the most fun aspects of the gaming community every year – the game releases.

Star Wars Outlaws, the first-ever open-world Star Wars game, is arguably the most anticipated title coming out next year. From the Walkthrough Trailer, it looks like we’re getting unparalleled visuals and entrancing storytelling.

The second much-awaited installment is set in the 24th century: Starfield promises to deliver particularly captivating gameplay. This RPG invites you to embark on a space exploration mission with an emphasis on combat and trading.

Thirdly, the remake of the iconic Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, is also coming out in 2024. Taking place after the events of Remake Intergrade, the game is expected to live well up to fans’ expectations.

For a full-on detailed breakdown of next year’s releases, check out this 2024 Games Calendar by Game Rant and make a note of the ones you’re most eager to get your hands on. Overall, there’s a lot to look forward to for gamers in 2024. Besides what we’ve mentioned, we also wouldn’t be surprised to see a rise in free-to-play games as well as mobile gaming, two markets that have grown immensely in the last few years.
