Kerbal Space Program 2 Delayed Again, Now Releasing In 2022

Kerbal Space Program 2 facing development issues

By Grayshadow, Posted 06 Nov 2020

Kerbal Space Program 2 has had a troublesome development period. Recently the game's entire development team was poached by the game's publisher after losing their deal with Take-Two, forcing the company, Star Theory Games, to go out of business.

The game is facing more technical and creative issues and has been delayed to 2022 instead of fall 2021.

According to creative director Nate Simpson:

We knew we were taking on an immense technical and creative challenge when we started this project.
We’ve heard time and again from this community that quality is paramount, and we feel the same way.
It’s not enough to deliver a bunch of new features – those features have to be woven together into a
stable, polished whole. We’re creating a reliable foundation on which players and modders alike can
build for another decade or more. That involves solving problems that have never been solved before,
and that takes time.

Simpson did promise to provide a Feature video this winter and will continue to provide images throughout the game's development.

A delay should be expected as the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all industries, especially game development. However, Kerbal Space Program 2's development history is already full of problems. With the original company behind the game going under and about half the staff working on the original development team working on the project. And this isn't a small delay, no specific release window has been provided, just 2022.
