Here’s some SoulCalibur news! Sorry, it’s not a new game announcement. After SoulCalibur: Lost Swords, it seems the franchise kind of messed the bed on that one.
For fans of SoulCalibur, there is a glimmer of hope. Publisher Bandai Namco announced that a concert with the game’s music will take place next month. Orchestral Memories, as the event is called, will take place in Salle Pleyel in Paris on February 20, 2017 at 8PM, for the first show. Two composers for Bandai Namco, Motoi Sakuraba and Go-Shiina, will attend. Pieces from SoulCalibur II, III and IV will be played, for the first time in a symphonic setting.
Orchestral Memories will also include tracks from other Bandai Namco franchises, such as the Tales Of series and everyone’s favorite: Dark Souls. A teaser trailer, in cooperation with La Fée Sauvage, has been released, which mostly gives a slight taste of how the music will play out. It can be viewed below.
Tickets for the Orchestral Memories event are available now and range from €49 to €149. That may sound pricy, but the latter choice pays for a VIP pass, which includes a meet & greet with aforementioned composers, as well as a signature and a photo. Only 150 of these VIP tickets will be sold.
A full-on, numbered iteration for SoulCalibur hasn’t been seen since SoulCalibur V in 2012. That’s the one where Ivy, one of the main fighters in the series, went “all out” in their design. Despite not being the most remembered title, the fifth installment did fairly well in reception, netting between 77 and 81 on Metacritic.
We’re overdue for a decent new SoulCalibur release. Personally, I’d go for a Soul Edge remake. Bandai Namco, however, is currently focused on bringing Tekken 7 to market, so it might still be a while before another fighting game joins the fray.
