Devil May Cry 5 Was Created Because Fans Wanted it

Fans weren't too happy with DmC: Devil May Cry's direction and wanted a direct sequel

DmC: Devil May Cry was a great game but many were disappointed with the game's direction and most importantly it wasn't a sequel to Devil May Cry 4. Capcom listened and that's how Devil May Cry 5 was born.

Capcom Europe Chief Operating Officer Stuart Turner and Marketing Director Antoine Molant talked about the game in an interview on Gamesindustry. Stating that the game was developed because fans wanted a direct sequel.

“The last game was very good, but there were a few unhappy voices because it wasn’t a direct sequel and other things. Because of that, the dev team sat down and asked: ‘Where do we take that next?’ And it was known that the community wanted Devil May Cry 5 to be closer to 1, 2 and 3. And so the project was born.”

However, this wasn't only to appease fans but also a business move.

“This project would never have been greenlit if it didn’t make sense business-wise. We rarely have crazy forecasts on any of our games. DMC 5 will please a fanbase that is still quite big.”

Since Devil May Cry 4 fans have demanded, myself included, a new installment in the mainline franchise. The next game will further the story, allowing Nero, who was introduced in the previous game, to develop and grow.

Devil May Cry 5 is set for a Spring 2019 release on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
