PlatinumGames is one of the most acclaimed developers in gaming. With incredible titles such as Bayonetta, Vanquish, Metal Gear Rising Revengeance, and the recent Astral Chain. One title that is lesser known is The Wonderful 101, an exclusive to the Wii U. And it may seem that PlatinumGames is seeking to port the game to the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PS4. With a new Kickstarter page now appearing.
The page is set to private and the rumor was first reported on by GameXplain. There are some users on Twitter who are assuming that the deal with Tencent is the reason behind this. And that seems very unlikely. As PlatinumGames has stated they will remain independent regardless of this investment. It should also be noted that Nintendo owns the IP The Wonderful 101.So if a revival was made Nintendo would have to greenlight it.
For those unaware, The Wonderful 101 was a Wii U exclusive that had players in control of 101 superheroes. The heroes would combine themselves into various called "Unite Morph" and become various objects to defeat enemies and complete platforming challenges. The game was praised for its creativity and incredible gameplay but due to the Wii U's failure the game slip into obscurity.
If The Wonderful 101 does get a remaster it'll be interesting to see how the game performs on more popular systems. Also how it plays. One of the key mechanics in the game was using the touchpad to trigger the morphing ability. They can use an interactive wheel selection for this but let's wait and see what happens.
PlatinumGames' next game is a rerelease of Vanquish and Bayonetta for the Xbox One and PS4.
