Online game store, Steam, has a free game to give away almost every single day. By that, we mean this game is free to keep, in fact, not just the barrage of free-to-play releases that drop all the time. There are always more of those to go around.
Today's offering entails Aegis Defenders, a 2D platform game with tower defense elements. This giveaway is particularly good news for those who missed out on the Humble Store deal that did the same very recently. Aegis Defenders is a game published under the Humble banner back in 2018.

The game's aesthetic is like many other pixelated games, such as Moonlighter or Dead Cells. In Aegis Defenders, players explore the world of Elam in search of a legendary weapon. At certain intervals, characters will need to build defenses, after which they'll fend off enemy waves; you know, the standard stuff. There's also progression involved, such as upgrading weapons. On top of singleplayer, Aegis Defenders offers cooperative gameplay, to make the defending a bit more manageable, since being attacked from both sides means it's required to switch between characters. Currently, Aegis Defenders sits at a 76% recommendation rate, but of course it's worth picking up, just on the matter that it's free.
For those who have a virtual reality (VR) option available, there's a little bonus. Steam is also handing out copies of Interkosmos for free. The game normally only costs five bucks, but it is sitting at about 90% approval, so it should be an enjoyable free experience for those who missed out on it. Here's an excerpt from one of the positive reviews posted on Steam:
Considering the premium you pay for some more lackluster VR experiences, Interkosmos is a steal for the price. It's a short-ish "follow these instructions before you die" kind of experience, but the funny writing and loving attention to detail really makes it stand out.
Have fun playing this weekend and let us know if you end up playing Aegis Defenders or Interkosmos.
