Bleak Faith: Forsaken is a new soulslike game from a company called Archangel, and this new indie take on the FromSoftware style of games has become highly controversial. The game has been accused of plagiarizing animations from Elden Ring and other soulsborne games. In addition, the company was accused and admitted to, using AI-generated artworks that have angered many members of the community.

This new game’s potentially plagiarized elements were brought to mainstream attention through a PC Gamer article. However, the accusations have been somewhat substantiated through video evidence in a compilation that was uploaded to Imgur. However, Archangel has responded to these criticisms on the game’s Steam forums by claiming that it did not steal animations from Elden Ring and other FromSoftware games. The company states that these animations are actually publicly available from the Epic Marketplace and that anyone can purchase them. They also state that only about 10% of the game’s animations are taken from such marketplaces.

This means that perhaps the company is not in the wrong here and that this animator selling these animations on the Epic Marketplace is instead to blame. However, this plagiarism news has coincided with the accusation that Archangel also used AI-generated art for its perk illustrations. They responded to these allegations on Twitter and explained that new art for the icons is already on the way and that it was just an oversight on its part.

Two rather large controversies right after each other are never particularly good for a new game, but if the developers did not intend on stealing any animations or art assets, then the company will hopefully replace the things that are closely related to these other games, and everyone will move on. However, we will have to wait and see what happens with this game in the future. Hopefully, all is sorted out and the developers are able to work on their next game without a new barrage of issues and controversies.
