Cate Blanchett Cast As Borderlands' Lilith

A Borderlands feature film has been under development since 2015. It has now been confirmed that Cate Blanchett has been cast in the leading role as Lilith the Siren.

 

According to Variety, Blanchett will be joining director Eli Roth on the project by Lionsgate. Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford is also an executive producer. Blanchett is no stranger to intense action roles, having previously played Hela in Thor Ragnarok.

Lilith has so far been referenced as a “legendary thief”. There has been no indication of the Siren phasing powers or affiliation with either the Vault Hunters or Crimson Raiders.

A plot synopsis from 2019 indicated that the characters of Lilith, Krieg, Claptrap, and Tiny Tina would be important to the story. It is unclear on what other Vault Hunters, Atlas, or Hyperion members will appear in the film, or if it would even take place on Pandora.

As with most video game to film adaptations many creative liberties are taken, often to the point that the movies no longer resemble the source material. Such was the case in films based on Assassin’s Creed, Rampage, and DOA: Dead or Alive. Hopefully, Roth and Lionsgate will remain faithful to the Borderlands setting.
