Darwin Project Is Now Free-to-play On Steam

Those who've purchased Darwin Project will receive cosmetic rewards unless they choose to refund.

As of April 20th, Darwin Project has joined the ranks of free-to-play Battle Royale titles on PC. Simon Darveau, Creative Director on Darwin Project had this to say on the matter:

“We’ve been fortunate to have a core community of players join us at a very early stage, with many still supporting us during Early Access, and the last thing we want to do is let those passionate players down. Lately, members of our community have reported longer queue times and difficulty finding matches in lesser populated servers. To bring in new players and maintain a level of activity that ensures players are able to get the most out of Darwin Project, we’ve decided to make it more accessible by removing the price tag."

Those who've already purchased the game will receive a Founder's Pack which contains a bunch of colorful cosmetics (as can be seen above). Refunds will also be available starting next week, regardless of purchase date, but otherwise conforming to the Steam refund policy. On Tuesday, the title will also receive its first batch of cosmetics that numbers over 200 items. Have a look at the full announcement.

If, for some reason, you're still on the fence about giving Darwin Project a try, you'll find my impressions of the title in our Darwin Project preview.
