Deadly Premonition 2 has received its first patch. The update included bug fixes and improvements to the game’s performance. Director Hidetaka “SWERY” Suehiro went on Twitter to address another reason for the patch, the adjustment of a mission deadnaming a transgender character.

Good morning everyone. I need to tell you about my apologies about DP2. So I wrote message by myself with Google-sensei. Please forgive my poor english skills.

SWERY became aware of the issue after the English version was released. He promised to rework the scenario so that there would be no more animosity towards protagonist Francis York Morgan. Players that have experienced the updated content have reported that the patch is incredibly unnatural and awkward. Instead of outright misgendering the character Lena Dauman, York now simply remains silent. However, Dauman’s own dialogue was not changed, leading her to misgender herself with her former male birth name unprompted.

SWERY has not yet made further comments, but had previously mentioned that Deadly Premonition 2 will have more patches in the future.
