BioWare is known for creating some of the best games of last generation and the generation before. With titles such as Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Jade Empire, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. However, it would seem that the studio was on the verge of bankruptcy and EA saved the studio was it was acquired.

When speaking at HeavenCon members of Dragon Age 2's team revealed the bleak history of the acclaimed studio. The panel, consisting of former Mass Effect lead writer Patrick Weekes, lead editor Karin Weekes, and former Dragon Age writer David Gaider. They spoke how Dragon Age 2 was rushed because EA acquired the studio to showcase the publisher a finished product. However, without the acquisition, BioWare wouldn't have lasted since the studio had "essentially run out of money".

While speaking about money those on the panel did discuss that EA's chief concern is money but that quickly elaborated that EA”rarely push[es] for anything specific or [tells] BioWare what to do.”

Currently, EA's reputation among gamers has taken a downward drop since 2017. With the release of Mass Effect: Andromeda having a myriad of bugs and not living up to the standard of past games in the franchise, the heavy use of microtransactions in both Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Need for Speed: Payback, and the closure of Visceral Studios.
