Factorio Developers Wube Software Begin Work on Expansion Pack
It shouldn't take more than a year to develop
News by LG18 on Feb 06, 2021
A blog posting from Factorio director and designer Michal Kovorik has confirmed that a large expansion pack is in development for the game.
Despite being in early access since 2016, the game only launched properly in august of 2020.
The team hasn't revealed anything specific about this expansion, and Kovarik said in the post that he doesn't want to unveil too much, as it would drive hype away from the main game.
"We don't want to start building hype too early and drive attention away from the finished Factorio."
Kovarik dispelled the possibility of a Factorio 2, smaller expansion packs, and indefinite free updates as not right for the game's model. As such, they opted for one large expansion.
In terms of the release date, he said this:
"All I can say is, that we are starting work on it now, and we don't think that it will take less than a year to develop."
Factorio is now avalable for PC, Mac, and Linux
