For a long time, Square Enix has been one of Nintendo's most reliable partners. This was especially true during the last generation, when the company backed the system with a wide range of HD-2D games and other unique experiences. Now that the Nintendo Switch 2 has arrived with much better hardware, the stage is set for a big new move: A possible port of Final Fantasy XIV, one of Square Enix's most popular MMORPGs.

Final Fantasy XIV's producer, Yoshida Yoshi-P Naoki, recently revealed that talks with Nintendo are happening about a possible port. Although no public announcement has been made, Yoshi P was hopeful that fans would hear good news sometime in the future. Since so many people love the game.

I can see why the timing works. Square Enix has been progressively adding to their multiplatform strategy over the past few years. An excellent proof of this is that the game just came out for Xbox systems. Bringing Final Fantasy XIV to Nintendo might help the game reach even more people, especially in Japan, where the Switch brand is popular and the series has a lot of fans.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is rumored to feature improved CPU and GPU performance, faster RAM, and support for higher-resolution output. This means that the system should be able to handle a technically demanding MMORPG like Final Fantasy XIV, which wasn't possible with the first Switch.

While it is possible to port a large MMORPG, it is not an easy task. Final Fantasy XIV has a lot of complicated systems, huge open areas, and many multiplayer interactions that need a lot of computing power and stable network connections. Developers will need to improve server connections, reduce load times, and possibly adjust the graphics quality to ensure the handheld device functions properly.

It's said that the Switch 2 will feature improved technology, including faster storage, enhanced CPU cores, and an upgraded GPU. This is necessary to ensure the experience is as good as that of current-gen consoles and PCs. This potential port is crucial for players in 2025. Mobile and handheld gaming have gone a long way.

Being able to play a full MMORPG like Final Fantasy XIV on a tiny device could change the way and where people play the game. Imagine being able to go on epic raids or explore vast towns while you're on the bus or in a car, without having to be near a console or PC. For MMORPG fans, this would mean a significant change in the ease of play, and it could attract a new group of players.

Square Enix has a strong history of optimizing games to work seamlessly across various platforms without compromising gameplay. Games like Octopath Traveler and the HD-2D remasters indicated that they could strike a balance between speed and visual quality. Keep these things in mind, and fans can still have hope that the Switch version of Final Fantasy XIV will be finished and fun from the start.

Still, since there hasn't been a public announcement, it's important to be patient. Fans shouldn't expect it to be released soon, but the conversations indicate that a Switch 2 port is a real possibility. It seems like the next logical step for the Final Fantasy XIV series is to make it portable. Square Enix wants to make games available on more than one platform, and the Nintendo Switch 2 has better functionality.  It might have a huge impact on MMORPGs in 2025.

Yoshi P's comments show that talks are going on, so gamers can look forward to the day when they can move throughout Eorzea on the go.  This would turn Final Fantasy XIV into more than simply a game for consoles or PCs; it would be a real adventure on the go.
