Nintendo may be hinting at a potential return to the iconic adventure game Hotel Dusk: Room 215 with their recent trademark filing. Hotel Dusk: Room 215 may be Nintendo's next big thing, with the Switch 2 on the horizon.

On May 9, Nintendo trademarked the name and logo of Hotel Dusk: Room 215. After waiting ten days, it was finally greenlit on May 19. The United States did not grant the trademark; rather, Japan did. The original name of the game in Japan was Wish Room. The Hotel Dusk brand is making its debut in that nation.

Cing, an independent studio, created Room 215 but has subsequently gone out of business. Subsequently, a sequel titled Last Window: The Secret of Cape West was released. North America was omitted from the distribution. However, it was sent to Japan and Europe.

Nintendo released several games developed by Cing while he was at the helm, and it appears that the company's intellectual properties are still of interest to Nintendo today. This is to be expected, given that the DS era was significantly enriched by Cing's iconic point-and-click adventure games.

Throughout the seventh generation of consoles, Nintendo targeted demographics that had never played video games before. Games on the DS and Wii that were easy to pick up and play because of their intuitive controls were a huge hit with newcomers to gaming. Studios like Cing were among the most adept at capitalizing on this.

An old game of Cing's that had been dormant for quite some time just made a triumphant return to the spotlight. Another Code, formerly known as Trace Memory in the US, was updated for the Switch in January 2024 by Arc System Works. Originally, it was a Nintendo DS visual novel in the style of Hotel Dusk, in which the protagonist explores a confined space in search of clues.

Arc System Works included the previously unreleased in North America sequel, Another Code: R, in their remake. Another two-game remake or collection is likely on the horizon, thanks to Nintendo's new trademark and the clear similarities between the Another Code and Hotel Dusk series.
