Guerrilla Games is said to be teaming up with another studio on a new Killzone project, but it’s still very early in development. Killzone might finally return after being out of the spotlight for over ten years. A recent report says Guerrilla Games is working with another studio on a Killzone remake or remaster.

The project is still in its early days, so not many details are confirmed yet. Sony and Guerrilla Games haven’t officially announced the game. The original Killzone could be getting another chance. The report doesn’t say which game is being remade or remastered, but it’s most likely the original 2004 Killzone.

This makes sense considering the series’ history.

The first game came out on PS2 and introduced players to Guerrilla’s gritty sci-fi shooter world. The series continued with Killzone 2, Killzone 3, and Killzone: Shadow Fall. Killzone: Shadow Fall, which came out in 2013, is still the latest big release in the series.

Since then, Guerrilla Games has mostly focused on Horizon games rather than shooters. An external studio could be handling much of the work. One interesting detail from the report is that Guerrilla might be working with an outside developer.

Instead of making the whole project themselves, Guerrilla is reportedly getting help from another studio for the remake or remaster. Several reports mention People Can Fly as a possible partner, but nothing has been confirmed yet. People Can Fly is known for games like Outriders, making them an interesting choice for a PlayStation shooter.

Still, we shouldn’t consider the partnership confirmed until Sony or the developers officially announce it. Horizon remains Guerrilla's main priority. Right now, the reported Killzone project isn’t Guerrilla’s main focus. The studio is still working on Horizon Hunter’s Gathering, and reports say that project has become the top priority after some recent changes.

The report says Killzone was supposed to be Guerrilla’s next big project after Horizon Hunter’s Gathering.

But now, the studio might slowly move some of its team to Killzone once Hunter’s Gathering is further along. Remaster, remake, or something bigger? Sony’s exact plans are also unclear. Most reports suggest Sony is planning a visual upgrade to an existing Killzone game, not a brand-new one.

Killzone Remake Guerrilla Games

This could be a standard remaster with better graphics and performance, or a bigger remake built for today’s hardware. Rumors also point to a full reboot, but that seems even less likely right now. Bringing back Killzone would be a big shift for Guerrilla, especially since the studio has spent years working on the Horizon series.

For now, fans should keep their expectations in check. The project is still in the early stages; Sony hasn’t announced anything, and it’s not even clear which game is coming back. If the reports are true, PlayStation might be getting ready to bring back one of its classic shooters for modern consoles, and the original Killzone could be the one getting another shot.
