Launch of Super Mario 3D World + Bowsers Fury 190% Bigger Than the Wii U Original
The launch is three-times bigger than the 2013 release
News by Linden Garcia on Feb 15, 2021
In the U.K., the biggest selling boxed retail game this week was Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury - a port of the 2013 Wii U title of the same name (minus Bowser’s Fury).

Bowser’s Fury exists as a 3 to 6-hour add-on that’s totally new for the re-release.
With the Wii U having a far smaller install base, the release of the game on the Nintendo Switch was almost three times the size.
Considering an 80 million-plus install base - compared to the Wii U’s 6 million upon the launch of the game in 2013 - it’s easy to see why there’s been such a stark increase.

The sales for the game are the third-best for a Super Mario entry so far.
3D World didn’t out-do Nintendo’s flagship title Super Mario Odyssey or Super Mario 3D All-Stars at launch, but it did beat Super Mario Maker 2 and New Super Mario Bros: Deluxe.
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is available now exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
