Series creator of the Mario series, Shigeru Miyamoto, doesn't believe that the series would perform well in VR.

After the Apple 7 event USA Today spoke to the legendary video game developer regarding the next Nintendo mobile application Super Mario Run. Miyamoto shared his thoughts about why Nintendo has taken so long to join the smartphone scene.

“Because up until recently we found that mobile devices weren't best suited to gaming. But that's changing."

Miyamoto touched on another growing piece of technology, VR, and if Mario would make the jump to the platform.

"I would agree that adapting Mario to new platforms is a key to keeping him relevant, but we want families to play together, and virtual reality doesn't really fit well there," he told USA Today. "We also like people playing for a long time, and it's hard to do that in VR."

Miyamoto does have a point, VR technology is usually a single-player experience and has been known to cause motion sickness. According to Steam's Hardware and Software survey for August 2016 not a lot of people are using VR headsets anyway. Perhaps Nintendo might change their minds in the future.
