Select Amiibos can be used as partners in double matches or used to face difficult AI opponents in the offline Knockout Challenge mode.

Like Super Smash Bros. your Amiibo will get more experience the more matches they play. Currently Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, Rosalina, Wario, Toad and Donkey Kong Amiibos are compatible with Ultra Smash.

Along with standard shots new moves will allow for powerful shots. Colorful Chance Areas will appear during matches that allow players to use special abilities against their opponents.

These are the game modes:

Knockout Challenge: Tiebreak matches with increasingly difficult computer-controlled opponents. Amiibos are welcomed.

Mega Battle: Mega Mushrooms will appear on the field, grabbing one will increase the player’s size and power.

Classic Tennis:

Variation 1 - Standard: Contains Chance and Jump shots but no Mega Mushrooms.

Variation 2 - Simple Mode: Ordinary Tennis.

Online Multiplayer: Compete with players around the world in Rank Matches in either Mega Battle or Classic Tennis, or casual modes. Two players on the same console can play online.
