Following the recent success of Alan Wake 2, Remedy Entertainment has just dropped some exciting news for longtime fans of noir shooters: the highly anticipated remakes of Max Payne 1 & 2 have officially entered full production having only a single title, Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne.

The update came after a quiet period, during which Remedy teased early development work on both titles. According to the company's latest Q1 2025 business review, things are ramping up fast. Remedy CEO Tero Virtala confirmed that both games are making "solid progress" across multiple areas of development.

They were not just talking about visual upgrades; Virtala emphasized that they are full-scale remakes being built from the ground up with a production budget and scope comparable to Alan Wake 2. That's no small promise. Alan Wake 2 was one of Remedy's most ambitious and visually stunning games to date, so it's a big deal to hear that the Max Payne remakes are being treated with the same level of care.

For those who haven't kept track, the original Max Payne came out in 2001 and quickly made waves for introducing "bullet time" to the gaming world. Its slow-motion gunfights let players dodge bullets and take down enemies in a stylish fashion. While films like The Matrix had popularized the effect in cinema, Max Payne made it playable and unforgettable.

The remakes seem to be part of a broader strategic push that appears to be paying off. Remedy reported a 24% year-over-year revenue jump in the first quarter of 2025, totaling €13.4 million. Much of that growth came from development fees related to Control 2 and the Max Payne remakes, as well as ongoing royalties from Alan Wake 2, which has now sold over 2 million copies.

Also, the company returned to profitability this quarter, signaling that its long-term creative direction is yielding results. As for Control 2, it started full production in February 2025 and is still going strong. Fans may need to be patient because Remedy is known for taking its time and prioritizing quality and new ideas over speed.

Still, it's good to know that these projects are moving forward behind the scenes. Fans haven't played a Max Payne game in a while, as Max Payne 2 came out on the PlayStation 2 a long time ago. The first game was a big deal because it changed the way action games were made to look like movies.

It's exciting to think that new players will be able to enjoy that history in a completely rebuilt form. With the power of modern technology like the PS5 Pro, these remakes could take things like bullet time and dark stories to whole new levels.

After all, Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne are more than just a remake for people who remember diving sideways through doors in slow motion. It's a return to one of the coolest and most innovative video game franchises. Do you have any early memories of Max Payne? We're just as excited as you are, so let us know.
