Mortal Kombat Creator Discusses Possible Crossover with Street Fighter Franchise

Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat are 2 of the most notorious fighting game franchises in the world. Both franchises have become staples within the video game industry but a crossover between the 2 has been on the mind of many fans. Creator of Mortal Kombat, Ed Boon, discussed this in the latest IGN Unfiltered.

In the interview, Ed Boon explained that radically different styles in gameplay and atmosphere would hold this project down. Stating that "there's no way that would satisfy everybody" as Mortal Kombat is an M-rated franchise. Even if permission was given to "tear Ryu's head off" was given by Capcom the different "pacing" and "fundamentals" of both games would have to be altered to ensure a fair gameplay experience.

Boon used Street Fighter X Tekken, a crossover between the 2 franchises, and stated that would title had "to sacrifice something". Boon explained if Capcom asked for a crossover but then stated "a whole ton of research with Street Fighter players" would be necessary.

Currently, NetherRealm Studios is working on Injustice 2, which launches on Xbox One and PS4 March 16, and Capcom is supporting post-launch content for both Resident Evi 7: Biohazard and Street Fighter V
