PlatinumGames Receives Investments from Chinese Mobile Developer Tencent

PlatinumGames is one of the most acclaimed studios in gaming. Releasing such titles as Metal Gear Solid Revengeace, Bayonetta, Vanquish, and the recent hit Astral Chain. With the studio notorious for providing some of the best combat mechanics and boss battles in gaming. But Tencent, the Chinese multinational giant, has the direct opposite reputation. With the company notorious for shady practices but also holding investments in some of the biggest gaming companies like Epic Games. Recently, as reported by Gematsu, Tencent made a capital investment to PlatinumGames.

We hope to use this capital to strengthen our foundation as a business and expand from game development into exploring self-publishing. We also hope that this partnership can give us a wider global perspective, while still creating high quality games that stay true to our name.

Tencent has always pursued live-service models that constantly provide profit. But it can offer PlatinumGames more stability as they're looking for self-publishing games. We'll have to see.
