Many Prototype fans have been wondering for years if Activision would ever bring back one of the most unique open-world character series from the PS3 era. It looks like that long-lost dream may finally be coming true thanks to a leak about the next Call of Duty.

Recently, there was a rumor surrounding the internet claiming that there was a playtester for Activision. This post was mostly about Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. The report talked about some of the game's most important features, such as the return of campaign co-op after a 10-year absence, a new plot involving series with David Mason, and a Zombies mode with a remastered Tranzit map from Black Ops 2.

But what was hidden in the middle of it all? A shocking fact: Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 was being worked on along with Prototype 3. The report said that Activision had sent out internal polls to see how many people were interested in a full reboot starring Alex Mercer, the protagonist in Prototype.

At first, it wasn't clear how reliable the leak was. As the leak was found on the internet, where people just say whatever they want and can get away with it. The pieces are easy to see if you think about them for a long time. It would make sense for Activision's legal team to wipe an account quickly if they found out that someone had leaked NDA-protected information.

More importantly, almost everything the report said about Black Ops 7 has since been confirmed by official sources and more leaks. This gives the rest of their claims, like the Prototype return, more credibility. And let's be honest: it wouldn't be that crazy if Prototype came back.

Now that publishers are chasing nostalgia, superhero games are back in style, and open-world design is easier to use than ever, Activision has every reason to bring back a series that, while not as popular as Infamous, has a devoted fan base. It feels like finding lost gold when you play Prototype again on PS5.

The game was brutal, fast, and didn't feel bad about what it did. Modern games still have some of their DNA, and the fact that people are excited about the possible return shows that there's a market for it. This rebirth might just be what it takes if Activision is still as focused on numbers as they were before.

Even more exciting is the idea that Infamous might be coming back. The franchise's creator, Sucker Punch, has made it clear that it wants to go back to Cole or Delsin's stories. If both shows come back around the same time, it could be the start of a superhero sandbox renaissance that fans have been hoping for since the PS3 era.

We still don't have official word from Activision, though. The time couldn't be better, though, since Gamescom is coming up soon. Prototype 3 could be the big surprise of the show, as the buzz and reputation around it grow every day.
