Cyberpunk pixel-art platformer delayed again as developers polish its futuristic sci-fi thrills.

The long-awaited 2.5D sci-fi action-platformer REPLACED from Sad Cat Studios has been pushed back again. It will now come out in the Spring of 2026. The report came in the form of a new development update. The game's director, Yura Zhdanovich, said that the production is almost complete but that more time is needed to make sure REPLACED starts as fans expect.

Long-time project fans won't be surprised by this delay. REPLACED was first shown at E3 2021 and was supposed to come out in 2022, but its release was pushed back to 2025 and is now set for 2026. That's a long way to go for an independent game, but it shows that Sad Cat Studios wants to give players a polished, story-driven action experience instead of rushing something out the door.

REPLACED is a mix of retro-futurism and cyberpunk ideas. It takes place in a different version of the 1980s. You play as R.E.A.C.H., an AI that doesn't want to be in a human body but is. You have to find your way through a society that is falling apart because of corporate greed, authoritarian rule, and the black market for human parts.

Another thing that stood out when the game first came out was the art style. The 2.5D pixel art graphics mix hand-drawn animation with cinematic lighting to give REPLACED a unique look that is equal parts old-school side-scrolling adventure and new-school action epic. It has the kind of look that can be sold just by looking at screenshots, but the creators are determined that the gameplay should look and feel just as good.

REPLACED has a variety of gameplay types, such as platforming, environmental puzzles, and brutal close-quarters fighting. The developers said they were inspired by Rocksteady's Batman Arkham games, and it shows: enemies give you clues about when to dodge and parry their attacks, which lets you counter, juggle, and chain combos in a smooth beat.

In contrast to traditional brawlers, the method isn't just about pressing buttons; it's also about timing and making up your own moves. Besides using melee attacks and guns, you can also switch between them and finish moves, and you can make the most of the surroundings. When you add in platforming sections and story-driven exploring, the game feels like a mix of action, adventure, and storytelling.

Sad Cat Studios is a small but dedicated independent team that used to be based in Minsk but now works out of Cyprus because of the war in Ukraine. It's clear that development has been rough, but the regular updates show that they care about their followers. The most recent comment made it clear that the project is almost finished. The only things left to do are polishing and improving it.

The extra time to prepare could actually save the game from a terrible launch window. The release date for Grand Theft Auto VI is currently set for May 26, 2026. Any game that comes out too close to Rockstar's huge hit risks being totally overshadowed. If REPLACED is carefully placed in Spring, the studio may be able to find a time when it can stand on its own and not be buried by GTA's culture wave.

You may purchase REPLACED on PC (through Steam and the Epic Games Store) and Xbox Series X|S. It will be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one of release. That guarantees that millions of customers will be able to download and play right away at no additional cost, which is a major exposure boost.

The game was once said to be coming out for Xbox One, but new press materials don't mention the old system, which suggests that Sad Cat Studios may have dropped support for it to focus on newer hardware. Later this year, a release trailer is expected to be published showing the progress made and confirming the release date. Fans, however, will have to wait a bit longer before they can enter R.E.A.C.H.'s pixelated digital nightmare.
