This morning, A tweet about Silent Hills set fire to the gaming stratosphere. Allegedly, the game was going to be cancelled. Guillermo del Toro said to a source:
"It's not gonna happen and that breaks my greasy heart."
This caused the people of the internet to demand the blood of Konami executives, even before anything else could be explained other than the alleged tweet. Hideo Kojima has allegedly left Konami for reasons that have yet to be fully specified by either company, and we don't know if they ever will, since Konami is allowing him to finish up Phantom Pain and have an active involvement in it. What is known though, is that it looks like the project won't be going down its original path, and there will no longer be a collaboration between del Toro and Kojima.
According to a source from IGN:
“It's important to note del Toro was speaking only on collaborating with Kojima, not whether or not the game has been cancelled. "You'll have to go after Konami for those answers," our source said.”
This does not mean that the game is cancelled; whether or not it's been cancelled is unknown. It just isn't going to be the product that was originally advertised thanks to this mysterious split.
